sw4400 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Also the hybrids will come at Np to replace the #5800's and maybe displace a couple #1000's too. That's what I think's going to happen. The 5800's will be around until at least after 2010, like the 6000-Series. Both series of buses may be a little weathered, but both still have the giddy-up they had when brand new. The CTA is retiring the buses that don't have that anymore, namely the TMC's and Flxible 5300-Series. Quote

It's not going to happen tomorrow, but it will happen, but first we have to receive 400 #1000's to retire what remains that is older. Probably a good decision in hindsight to retire the #5800's, they have been at Np for 13 years with no protection from the elements. That alone can destroy the buses quicker. Also with all the histories of fires on these, they are dangerous. CTA wouldn't have installed devices to put out engine fires on these if they weren't a problem. Better to get rid of them before someone gets hurt. Quote

nflyer22 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Hey, I was just looking at the 'Buses' section right here, and I noticed that Archer has been added to the list of garages that have Optimas. Has anyone seen one yet on any Archer routes? Quote
Kevin Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 There's at least one parked in the garage, but it probably isn't going out for service yet. A bulk of the movement will occur this weekend. Quote

I'm still anticipating what Kedzie might be getting to replace its remaining 5300s. It's still interesting to see how 8, 145 and 148 will fare there. Quote

Busjack Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Oops...Didn't catch the spelling goof. Thanks, Busjack. No, you were correct the first time. I was just making an observation of a homonym. Maybe I should have said "syntactically" instead of "grammatically." Quote

So anyone want to make final speculation as to what the changes might be this weekend, as far as bus reassignments go? Quote
