Looks like some of Archers New Flyers are moving to Chicago. I have seen 1014 & 1016 on the 20 and Bustracker is showing 1013 is on there as well.

Just spotted #1010 NB working 53 Pulaski.

Do you guys know what was the reason for the New Flyers going to Chicago? And what is Archer getting back from Chicago?

You guys are not keeping your reading up to date. See this...

I don't know if the Archer Novas going to Forest Glen are long-term or not. But, 1000-1019 are being sent to Chicago Garage in exchange for 20 Novas (I forget the numbers). Soon (don't know how long), Archer will no longer have New Flyers, and Chicago will no longer have Novas. This is being done to consolidate fleet types at garages.

I'm told that eventually, Novas will only be at two garages (don't know which other one besides Archer, but could speculate Forest Glen).

Five Optimas were sent to 103rd recently, in exchange for Flxibles. U of C keeps wanting more buses on their routes, so their fleet of 30-footers has grown from about 15 or so up to 25.

Also, busjack, why do you say that Ridge is too small to handle a full-sized bus? Standard buses run on that street without incident all the time.

I spotted #1002 on NB #53 Pulaski and #1004 on WB #76 today.
If 1002 was good enough for Mayor Daley, you can't go wrong. :P

I still think there were political reasons for stocking Archer first and having the press conference there.

The title of this thread could have been "Former Archer New Flyers at Chicago" as they are now permanently assigned to Chicago. But I still dislike this swap. Riding CTA buses has always been a great experience as to you never know which bus type you're going to ride on a particular route. It is an effecient move by the CTA, but from a busfan's point of view, Archer and Chicago routes will be looking pretty dull with only one bus fleet assigned to each in the near future.

Sorry, I meant what Novas (the numbers) Archer will be getting from Chicago.

Yeah, I agree, since now almost all southwest routes (routes from Archer) will soon be run by Novas, and for you people who hate the New Flyers 1000s (particularly the first few 1000s), I kinda liked them. It's shameful to see them permanently at Chicago.

Yes. That's what I've liked about with CTA over the years. You had a variety of buses to choose from if you were riding the bus during recreation time. Of course when commuting for business reasons like work, it doesn't matter. But when you're riding the bus in your free time or just bus watching, it's good to have that variety to choose from. Plus it doesn't help those busfans who have a bus model they particularly don't like.

I agree, I think the reason for New Flyers from Archer goin to Chicago is because for their routes that goes North near Forest Glen/ Jeff Park neighborhoods wants to see more New Flyers and Forest Glen doesnt have any until the last 4400s are sadly retired, thats my opinion. And I bet that Chicago Drivers aren't happy for Novas to leave, Their routes are good for Novas.

Yesterday on the 72, I noticed rode 1022. It still had the "A" sticker, as well as the old seats.

#1031 was on the 54 yesterday too. Also #6672 was on 49. I think Chicago has received another 20 or so New Flyers over the weekend. If you figure in #6672 that's about 43 buses swapped so far. #6630 - #6672 for Archer #1000 - #1042 for Chicago. Wow I better make my last rides out of Archer on #1000's before their gone. If swaps continue at this pace in another 4 weeks Archer's #1000's will be gone.

They are really moving along. I still don't know what's so hard or complicated about maintaining two bus models at one garage. Kedzie and 103rd have the bigger issues of having to maintain up to five or six models.

Make that around 44, since 1043 is on 20 Madison right now on Bus Tracker. :o

Yeah, I agree, going back to a few posts ago that riding the CTA during leisure was seeing and riding the different bus types. Now, in order to do so, we'd have to travel across the city just to ride on a different type.

I can't actually believe that Chicago's losing all its NOVAs. This makes me upset because I don't want to always ride just one bus type. Well, at least there will still be NOVAs on #56 Milwaukee.

Same here, I kinda like the New Flyers, but now it'll be hard for me to ride one, since I live in Chinatown, the edge of where Archer (garage) buses (like 62, 35, 49, etc.) run. Though Kedzie buses (21, 18) also run nearby, I still take the 62 most.

So yeah, I understand how you feel, since both our favorites are being swapped.

Want to trade bus routes? I like the Novas, but I'll take a New Flyer any day over a bus with backwards seats.

Ha Ha thats the only thing I dont like about Novas- The backward seats, but sometimes I have to sit on them because I dont like sitting on the lower side of any low floor bus.

Yeah, hate it when you have to take a backwards seat, especially on trains when you don't have a choice! :P

Update: Chicago has at least up to 1049, since it's on 20 Madison right now. If around 50 is now at Chicago in under a week, all New Flyers at Archer will be gone in under 2 weeks :(

I'm 99% sure 1050 is at Chicago. I rode it on 72 today.

ANOTHER UPDATE: At least up to 1050 is now at Chicago. (Thanks Danielsmusic!)

We're up to at least 1052 now, it's on 20 Madison.

Those New Flyers are just disappearing one by one from Archer.
