I always thought it is consider an lucky number for series of 5300s. Im surprised that Kedzie still has that many of 5300s. But what about 103rd and Chicago 5300s? Thanks Qwantae, I'll add #5555 to my list. If anyone sees any additional buses please put them here OK. Chicago garage the last I heard was down to around 45 #5300's. Here are 37 of them: #5414, #5460, #5462, #5464, #5466, #5467, #5471, #5472, #5476, #5478, #5485, #5490 - #5493, #5520, #5528, #5533, #5534, #5535, #5569, #5645 - #5647, #5684, #5685, #5687, #5688, #5689, #5695, #5701, #5729, #5742 - #5744, #5766, and #5769. Recent retiree's are #5468, #5473, #5483, #5486, #5527, #5540, #5681, #5683, and #5767 (within the last 4 to 5 months) Hey listen up, according to roster info I've obtained, #5473 was gone as of 2/1/08, but it is always possible that it was on the long term hold list, if it was really in an accident at Elston/Pulaski after 2/1. If you're interested I've checked and #5471,#5472,#5476, and #5478 are all Ok, for the person that said it was #547?. Some things really are an unsolved mystery!! As far as 103rd goes the last I heard was 60 #5300's remaining.( I know this is probably wrong because effective 2/1 there was only 104 #5300's remaining.) Curiously enough when you add my totals 31 now at Kedzie, 36 at 103rd, and 37 at Chicago you get 104 left. Well anyway here are the 36 left at 103rd that I know of: #5300, #5362, #5375, #5408, #5409, #5425, #5427, #5430, #5434, #5436, #5437, #5442, #5444 - #5446, #5448 - #5450, #5454, #5457, #5458, #5480, #5511, #5529, #5541, #5622, #5624, #5625, #5629, #5632, #5636, #5662, #5664, #5672, #5717, and #5734. Recent retiree's include #5302, #5320, #5324, #5374, #5378, #5403, #5429, #5435, #5456, #5459, #5489, #5499, #5563, #5587, #5612, #5627, #5634, #5641, #5651, #5663, #5664, #5668, #5670, #5673, #5713, #5736, #5738, and #5740 (all retired within the last 4 to 5 months). Maybe late this week or early next week I'll put up my #4400's remaining list. It is very interesting to say the least.
Busjack
BusHunter:I was wondering about your hunting technique. Just what you see on the street, or do you have access to the computer (like rmadison apparently does)?Do you have a rough breakdown of Kedize by series, so we have a snap shot of before and after March 23? Such as 30 5300s, ?? 4400s, ?? NABIs, ??1100s, and 20 hybrids? (I don't really expect the exact fleet numbers, but just the rough number of buses in each series.) Several posts stated this bus was emitting dark black smoke. If the CTA kept this bus around, they must've done a engine transfer.

As far as my hunting technique, maybe some things should remain a mystery. BTW, sw4400: #5300 was still on the roster on 2/1, so I don't know what to tell you. Also you can add #5682 to Chicago's list. I thought it had been retired, I guess not.
Busjack
Does that answer your question?Question 2, yes. Apparently Kedzie has 30 buses to lose immediately, and 98 of 1991 vintage total. We'll now await how many get displaced by NP NABIs and how many by other types of equipment.

Yes it's going to be interesting to see how the ratio of artics to 40 footers changes at Kedzie and what 40 foot series will be added to the roster. New Flyer
It's not hard to keep track. I've been keeping tabs on TMCs, I see on the street plus every couple weeks I go to 77th to see whats been scrapped. Plus some TMCs are being scrapped near 91st /Buffalo . So far I have 67 TMCs retired, I'm propbably 10 -15 short.

It answered my question I was going to pose to Bushunter and some others of how they get tabs of what's left since the start of the TMC and 5300 retirements outside of observing what's on the street and making a visit to the garages that still have those models. (see the press release on the CTA website) As of 2/1 I had 104 Flx's and 294 TMC's. That's about 398 buses at 2/1. According to the 2/1 roster we were up to #1585 on New Flyer deliveries. Now we are at #1622. It was on the #14 last friday. That's roughly 40 more buses. The count numbers are pretty close but there not exact. #5347 was supposed to be retired, yet it was out on the #26 last night. I would say the lists are 90 percent accurate though. Maybe between us all we can get a more accurate picture of what is wrong with the lists. (what needs to be added.) That's why I've asked you to put additional numbers on here. Thanks for the additional numbers guys!

BusHunter
In Gene King's latest post in the next garage to get New Flyers thread, he reported seeing 1623 parked on Clark St. downtown yesterday afternoon. Yeah, most likely we'll see the completion of the latest option this week. The pattern seems to be receive from NF via Expway on the weekend and go through the acceptance phase Monday and Tuesday then putting the buses out on the street wednesday, thursday, and friday. #1623 got out a little early, but maybe it was just being tested. There's no proof here of it being in service quite yet, but it's close. Most likely it's running today.

Guest
Here are some pics I took earlier today at the scrapyards off of 92nd/Ewing ave. What a sad site to see! Flxible #5456 and TMC #4514 awaiting their final trip to the shredders. Its too bad we cant go in and grab the parts still on the buses, especially the Flxible nameplate and the run boxes. The Flxible has written on it "scrapped 2-15-08". And on the other end of the junkyard I found these other TMCs. To see #4479 was sad to look at because I drove this bus out of North Park. There are more TMC buses there but they werent accessible to photograph. Luckily in that exact spot there were city garbage containers, I was able to climb up on to see over the fence, so I was able to get a clear view of the three TMCs and off to the right out of the picture there are more buses but my view was obstructed by large chunks of concrete, I couldnt get a good shot. Nos. #5456 and TMC 4514 are in clear view from the bridge on Ewing ave. From here I headed down to Pace South Holland acceptance facility, John LeBeau was a big help in directing me to the facility, thanks John!. I took some pics there as well that I will also post. Maybe someone recognizes the run number on the CTA TMC 4669(#341) and knows what the last street this bus ran on. I plan to make more trips as more buses arrive here. Busjack
From here I headed down to Pace South Holland acceptance facility, ... Maybe someone recognizes the run number (#341) and knows what the last street this bus ran on. Probably easier to identify from the fleet number. As trainman pointed out, the run number just means that it was a split run, not the route. On 2322 it was easier to tell, since the destination sign was frozen on 355 via 130th. P.S. If your pictures are any sample, it seems like they are more interested in getting TMCs out of 103rd than Flxs.

Busjack
I think Jerry was referring to 4669 at the scrap yard.Sorry, unclear antecedent, and he meant 1341. Also, if it was retired before the March 23 garage swaps, Bill V. has removed his run number list, and linked back here, so someone that remembers the 103 one would have to reply.
