cta_44499_FG
With the new year closely approaching on us....I wish all a safe and prosperous 2009! Don't drink too much tonite. For those of you that don't, well, go waste all your pennies on the system until 0600 tommorow! With that said, what are some things that some of you would like to see change in the new year at CTA? Anything at all? Any regrets of 2008? Personally, I'd like to see all the New Flyers die and all Flxibles be "magically" resurrected from the dead, but now I'm asking for a miracle. I just want to see competent CTA management. Not just management just "treading water" until its time for them to collect retirement. cta 5555
To drive the 5300s! And brake down more with the new flyers.
jajuan
My wish is to see the retirement of the rest of the junk that was stated would be gone long before now, despite some operators' nostalgia and resistance to getting used to much needed new equipment, and the much promised expansion of Bustracker, which has had two month gaps in getting updated with new routes lately. I'd also like to see the capital bill finally get some steam once we can get the whole Blago fiasco resolved (hopefully sometime soon) and the state's attention back on much needed business and issues. I'd first like to say Happy New Year to all of you here! Second, I'd like to see the fares go DOWN, not up, (I know I'm asking too much now, LOL), for all routes to have BusTracker (to help customers make better travel decisions, not just to be up there for no reason whatsoever) and for the New Flyers to run alongside with the Flxibles (I know I'm crazy for liking the New Flyers, but I do. And I also know that the Flxibles will be gone very, very soon if not already, heaven forbid).

Chances are, fares WONT go down. I love the new flyers as well and look forward to seeing all 2030 D40LF's and all 208 DE60LF's in addition to more information on the BRT pilot. I would like to see more competent management at the CTA as well, and I think possibly to an extent, there will be (hopefully). CTA has long needed to get its priorities in order and hopefully will given potentially new funding for capital improvements in the Obama Administration and the selection of the Olympic city later in the year. It is the year that things have to be better for them or you'll see major changes in 2010.

Busjack
How about a unified fare structure and media in 2009? Happy 2009 folks!Media are possible (assuming that the term is plural). There was the previous discussion that the credit card with a chip may be the answer (which we figured out how to do two days before the RTA did). However, on further review, I'm not sure how to enforce that on Metra, especially since zone fares are not going away. Maybe we can invent a telephatic device to implant on trainman to figure out the rider's destination and transmit that information to the rider's credit card computer chip or the card processing company. ;)

Hmm....sounds like I might be going more robotic than I thought I already was !!! My wish for 2009...how's about we privatize everything again and get rid of all the pols in control (now thats dreamin').
sw4400
What am I looking forward to in 2009? CTA related, the following comes to mind... -Bustracker on all routes -The finalization of deliveries of the D40LF's from New Flyer -The implication of BRT routes, so I can see if I(and those who thought the same as me) am right regarding possible DE60LFR's arriving in Chicago as that small order of 58 articulateds from New Flyer -New railcars!!! YAY!!! Perhaps on the Brown Line??? -The finalization of deliveries of the DE60LF's base option(4000-4149) from New Flyer and seeing whether or not the CTA will continue the options on these. -Will the garages do more swaps of buses/routes as 2009 goes on? -Will 2009 be the Flxibles' last year in Chicago?(no timetable yet on the 6000's total retirement) -Farewell Budd 2200's. Many may have liked them, but I never did due to all the problems I heard about on the Blue Line. -Farewell Boeing-Vertol 2400's??? I don't know if this series will be totally retired this year, but they're fast approaching their retirement. -The fate of the NABI 60-LFW's... Park them??? Repair them??? What will CTA do with these problematic buses??? Non CTA related(many things, but this isn't really a forum to discuss this, so I'll keep it very abbreviated) -The resignation/impeachment of Rod Blagojevich(I have another name for him, but I won't put it on here) -Cubs World Series(I still keep this dream annually until it happens) -A new President(Obama) to hopefully make our economy better -No Chicago Olympics(Mayor Daley cares more for this than his citizens... look at the snow removal/ice storm cleanup efforts as an example) I'll cut it here.... But there are many more things I'd like to see that aren't CTA related, but as stated, this is not the place to discuss them...

Maybe you mean the implementation. - As mentioned many times, 4000-4149 is not the base option, it is an assigned option from Seattle. So are the next 58. What we are looking forward to is what will be the implementation of the (according to New Flyer) announced contract for up to 900 more. Again, we know the implications, we just don't know the exercise or implementation.
Guest
Before anything gets done as far as transit projects are concerned there needs to be a clean out of the entire city and state government. After what weve been witnessing since the election the kind of corruption in this city. I never had much confidence in Chicago and lately state politics and now the politicians that are being picked to run our country. Just look at how much bad press this has recieved since the election, mostly from Blago. This is coming out to the whole world and the shadow it is casting on us. Im not confident that future transit projects will eventually get off the ground, Im not going to hold my breath with these new politicians coming in. Obama hasnt been sworn in yet and already so much bad press has been coming out of this city and state. This dosent give me much confidence that our transit projects that have been on hold for years will take off in the new administration. Corrupt city politics will be taken to Washington for the whole world to see. These are my thoughts for the new year.

Well Blago may not be around much longer, and even if he is, I'm not going to let it dampen my hopes of some progress being made this year. It's up to us to hold our leaders feet to the fire or change. That's the whole purpose for having a voice when exercising the right to vote. Since he is the main obstacle to getting things done in Springfield, especially the budget, with how he tries to bully legislators to doing his will instead of what's good for the state, I don't see him making it past an impeachment trial. This will be my only and last comment on this particular mess since I'm sick of hearing of it and watching his childish antics to keep the spotlight on him instead of on the state's needs which happen to include solving the transit infrastructure needs by passing a capital plan to insure some federal matching dollars coming our way. Busjack
...on the state's needs which happen to include solving the transit infrastructure needs by passing a capital plan to insure some federal matching dollars coming our way. Also, the question is what infrastructure is in the proposed Obama stimulus plan that is supposed to be on his desk the day he is sworn in, as I mentioned in connection with the Chi-Town Daily News link on the front page. Of course, the word now is that it won't be as quick as first indicated.
