Railwaymodeler
Orion 2368 is now a North vehicle. Saw it coming to Washington/Sheridan on the 565, getting ready to deadhead back to the garage. I talked to the driver, he thinks it will be here a while, as they put new brake pads on it (And it smelled like they were new too!). Reasonably clean vehicle throughout, and he said it runs well for an Orion. Reading up a ways, it looks like it came from Northwest?

Northwest now has 12 Orion Is--- 2315, 2321, 2324, 2351, 2352, 2354, 2358, 2360, 2363, 2365, 2366, and 2369. Well, at least 12, until we find out about 2357, 2364, 2371, which were all at Northwest, but haven't been seen in service for a while. Are there quite a few 40-footers on the 565 since we can't see that route on Webwatch? Is placing a 40-footer on the 565 valid based on demand? Busjack
Are there quite a few 40-footers on the 565 since we can't see that route on Webwatch? Is placing a 40-footer on the 565 valid based on demand? Basically, 565 is about the only really heavy route in that area,* since it connects Downtown Waukegan with Gurnee Mills. However, historically it has run with a mix of 35 and 40 foot buses. ____________ *Not taking into account school traffic.
Railwaymodeler
The late night (Till 10 PM) 565 is nearly always run with bus 2401 or 2421, both are 40' NABIs. Carrying passengers from Six Flags to Downtown Waukegan is not fun with a 35' bus, and is sometimes even difficult in a 40 footer. One of the guys that has that run most days of the week, requested to always be given a 40' bus on those runs. He got his wish. Once in a while, it will run with a 35' NABI, though. I don't see many Orions on that route like I did a few years ago. During the day, they mostly use 35' NABIs.

rotjohns
2378 doesn't even look that bad. But then again, the engine is probably what did it in.
BusHunter
In the last two weeks I haven't seen any Orion I's operating out of Academy are those last two retired? Also I haven't seen any Pace Classics on Webwatch since last thursday morning. (8/12) So they may be done as well.

Busjack
At least, the next for sale list is out. 2261, 2275, 2289, 2302, 2306, 2310, 2311, 2312, 2320, 2326, 2343, 2348, 2353, 2357, 2359, 2362, 2371, 2374, 2380, 2382, 2383, 2385, 2387, 2392, 2393, 2396, 2397. 2 Orion 35 foot, 15 Orion 40 foot, 1 Ikarus, and 9 Nova. From this and the last sell off, at least 7 of the 14 Novas are out of commission at SW. However, this list does not appear to include anything recently sent down to South Holland as a result of the stimulus buses (i.e. 2319 is not on this list), nor the photographic evidence that all the Novas at NS were blacked out (only 6 of 8 accounted for). Also, with regard to previous sightings of 2392 at NS near the Skokie Swift, the bid document has it for inspection at SW. Error (i.e., someone just dragged it down from the 2387 row of the table)? If route 616 does get cut in any capacity, 2290 and 2293 will definitely be gone. That's if they aren't gone sooner.
rotjohns
Webwatch is acting up today, but noticing today that to this point only 2315 and 2351 are showing up at NW and the Eldos are now up to at least 2788. Any word on any more Orions that have headed or are heading to South Holland?

qwantae
Working today at Academy, #2290/2293 are still going strong! Yes I did see on the webwatch this morning that 2290 was on #616 and 2293 was on #606 at Schaumburg. Secondly, later today I've rode 2379 (Nova) on #386 entire route, it still riding strong, the driver said that she's enjoying it and she'll hate it when they're retiring, and she said that SW are nearly down to 3 left of Novas, I assuming that 3 of Ex-West Division Novas are still active as well, hopelly I'll catch 2400, that was my favorite Ex-West Nova when I rode it many times on West Routes.
Railwaymodeler
I saw another Orion at North on Monday doing a school tripper. 2353 I think it was, I know it is 235X (Don't remember the last digit too well).

Well if that's the case, then it's 2379, 2384, and 2400. Those are the only buses that have been sighted at Webwatch and physically by me and others in recent weeks. Isn't that the former NW bus you were talking about a few weeks ago that moved? I'm not remembering a 235? at Waukegan.

No, this is a different unit. From what I understand, North management requested 40' buses, so was sent some Orions. I will be looking out for it and any potential others this morning.
