New Flyer at FG...

New Flyers serving into the late evening on Forest Glen routes...

I've been noticing this for the past few nights now. I wonder what gives?

I'm saying that in my opinion, I would like Forest Glen to receive more Flxibles instead of New Flyers in the next swap, but it most likely will not happen.

Even though that may be your opinion, and I think most will agree with me here, but FG shouldn't get more Flxibles. If you ask me, they should all stay where they are until retirement. FG should get some more NFs, but 1200s or 1300s, if they're to get any. I wouldn't support them getting any 1900 or 2000s, that's for sure.

1215 is on #56 Milwaukee as I type this. It's currently in Downtown. Check it out on the tracker.

UPDATE: 1219 is on #78 Montrose and 1221 is on #77 Belmont.

However, buses 1216, 1217, 1223, and 1225 are still at Kedzie. NFs 1216 and 1217 are on the #8, NF 1223 is on the #52, and NF 1225 is on the #12 right now.

Something I've noticed is that every day since FG has had those ten NFs, all of them have been in service every day. But today, only 1226 and 1233 are out there- along with 1215, 1218, 1219, 1220, and 1221. And there's an unusually high amount of Flxibles out there from FG for a Saturday.

That is correct. However, I think those four may, sooner or later, find their way up to FG (they should be, at least, since it doesn't make since to have #1216-1217, #1223 and #1225 at Kedzie while #1215, #1218-1222, #1224 and #1226-1233 at FG. That screws up the bus order).

Maybe they're doing their final tour(s) of FG routes before they're probably transfered or retired.

1213 is also still at Kedzie. I rode it on the 18 16th/18th after work today. A number of others are still there too besides the ones mentioned. I saw a few on the 18 as well when riding 1213.

I believe the reason Kedzie is holding back these few particular New Flyers is because they have the digital ad installed on them, according to the small list other members compiled. Kedzie has a variety of routes that run in downtown or the surrounding downtown area, and thus these buses with the ad will be at maximum efficiency, rather than FG, since FG only has 1 route that serves downtown, which is the 56.

Where will the NF bunch for FG begin? The numbers keep going down... are they going to go as low as #1200?

We're most likely coming toward the end of the Kedzie transfers. Fg will most likely start picking up 77th's #1234 and up soon when artics start to increase at 77th. I'm thinking Fg will end up with half Kedzie and half 77th #1000 transfers. (around 20 -25 from each garage.) We'll have to see what happens. Interesting though to see #1221 at Fg. It should be a titan bus. I guess if all of those stayed at Kedzie it would force #1100's to come FG's way, and I think it's there intention to make FG a #1200's garage. (at least the first 50 anyway) BTW, I keep wondering if possibly nostalgia is possibly playing a small role in this. Back in the 1970's FG was a #1200's fishbowl garage to around #1256. It's sort of like deja vu to have these same numbers appearing again up there.

More deja vu, Chicago Ave gar. has New Flyers with numbers of the old GMC Fishbowls assigned at North Ave garage back in the 1970s. North Ave. had GMC #1330-1524. So you have 1300s and 1400s operating on streets that were once old North Ave gar. bus routes.

FWIW, the 1972 and 2006 1000s started at Archer (for the same reason, perhaps?) although the latter is not there now.

With the reports of the low 4000s going to Kedzie, you could add those, compared to the 1980s ones.

I was on bus #1221 on route #77 Belmont late Saturday evening. After being in Madison, WI. for the Great Taste of the Midwest beer festival on Saturday afternoon {I have pictures of the Chicago Beer Society-chartered Free Enterprise System motor coach I rode to|from Madison.}, from Goose Island Clybourn, I rode the Brown Line "L" from Armitage to Belmont and caught bus #1221 going westbound.

My shot of the rear of the bus was too blurry to be of use. You'll have to go with the circumstantial evidence that this was the only New Flyer bus in service on Belmont this night. As this photograph does display though; #1221 is not a Titan electronic ad display bus. arx1250044573f.jpg

I got it confused with #1220. #1220 should be a titan bus though. If it's not I would be shocked. Just so you know for sure #1217 and #1225 are titan buses, still at Kedzie. I saw the screens myself.

Yes. These shots show #1217 on #151 Sheridan, a handful of low-1200s on #12 Roosevelt [plus one articulated bus], and on #126 Jackson.

Roosevelt is close enough to count as downtown? ;)

Roosevelt falls within the South Loop and is show within the southern most part of the downtown inset map on a system map so yes by CTA's idea of it anyway it counts. ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

You apparently missed my prior post (but it went up only a minute before yours).

Sorry, Busjack :). I did miss it [probably due to the fact that I've only had 2 hours of sleep]. Anyway, so now FG's getting higher 1100s from Kedzie, it looks like. I wonder if they've got #1200-1202 (due to the fact they have #1203).
