What's Left for Pace's Orion VI's 6000s?

Guess this is as good a place as any.

After going to South Holland, I then went over to South in Markham. Again, one can't get too close from 163rd Place,but there appeared to be a whole forest of Orion VIs with white Xs on the back window, as well as some 2400s. There were also 2 wrapped MCIs,so it looks like a couple of buses in the 6900-6907 series are also out of service. Also, a number of paratransits.

I'm surprised that Pace hasn't advertised to dispose of all this junk yet.

Also, no sight of South Campus construction,but there was a new sign on  163rd Place with a green stripe that it is a CNG facility.

Were these all in the old truck terminal lot to the west of the garage building? Also, could you tell what series the paratransits were?

Were to the west, and, again, from long distance. looked like 5300s. However, there still are some 5300s on the road in my area.

The old Orions are almost gone from SW. At 9:45 AM today, there was only 6101, 6140, 6154, and blue wrapped 6159-61.

You know this for a fact? If so I can adjust the rosters, but then what did west and NW get if anything?

Is that based on Webwatch?  Because 6147 and 6149 should still be there and are the late arriving Orions unless Pace decided to move them back to NW or W.

**Edit:  Webwatch is showing 6083 and 6092 are still out there along with 6101.  I think the time it was reviewed, most of the rush hour buses were gone.

As of 9:45 a.m. most of the rush hour buses are back in the garage, so I agree with you that that isn't definitive. Also, at SW, the UPS trips skew things.

6083 and 6092 are on Webwatch at the moment.

I'm not saying those are the only Orions left, I'm just saying that the garage has gotten to the point where it's almost all new Eldorados, so it shouldn't be long before the rest of the Orions are gone. It seems like even the blue wrapped ones are being run less than they were a few weeks ago.

From what I can tell, yesterday.

Something disappeared in the past hour, but I had 23 6500s, 4 2700s, 2 6000s under 6156 and 2 6156s on routes 379-386, 390, 391.

The numbers I quoted were yesterday. I only intended to make a general point that there are a lot more new buses than Orions on the street at any given time.

Perhaps significant, the only place where there are Orion VIs midday, starting this week, is West.

Funny you mentioned that, I hadn't seen any Orions on Webwatch at South and Northwest at all midday, not even 6156-6161 at Southwest.  They appear to be coming out only during rush hour.  That tells me that they are either close to retirement or potentially moving, possibly to West?

To the extent 3:15 is the rush hour (and it is with schools and UPS), none at SW, and only the following at NW: 6024, 6031, 6046, 6101, 6129, 6143.

So the only blue Orion buses that are missing from SW now are 6158 & 6160.  The rest of them are already at West.  It is pretty safe to say that SW has officially entered a new era after a very long run of Orions there.  And 6 blue Orions at West means that 6 unpainted Orions (or maybe 2003 Nabis) are biting the dust from somewhere.

W 6041-313, 6044-305, 6048-303, 6057-307, 6058-301, 6060-318, 6062-313, 6067-307, 6069-307, 6070-318, 6099-322, 6103-302, 6116-315, 6122-301, 6123-331, 6125-308, 6130-301, 6132-331, 6156-332, 6157-301, 6159-322 and 6161-309 (22)

Yeah nw probably lost Orions due to the latest #6500's arriving at nw. Seems like with the #6156's going to west that's where they anticipate them finishing up with the Orions. But without any more new Axess I don't see that happening too soon at least until the rest of the cng #15500's show up.

I saw 6156 Friday night on the #332 and it's front destination sign was not working.  The passenger's side was working.  Wonder if Pace is going to spend the money and replace it or will it be like the old CTA days where paper signs will be on it until that bus quits?

Only 4 Orions running right now at NW.  #6117, #6145, 6091, and #6008. Might be the end for the rest of them on the roster at NW.

As I have been keep a track of Orion VIs on the Web Tracker.   Here are the ones that are still active as of this week.  

 

Northwest:  6008, 6024, 6031, 6091, 6117, 6129, 6141, 6143, 6145 & 6150 

West:  6041, 6044, 6046, 6048, 6051, 6053, 6058, 6060, 6062, 6067, 6069, 6071, 6099, 6103, 6109, 6116, 6122, 6125, 6130, 6132, 6156 - 6161.  

Total : 35 (At Least)

I'm guessing that they were working on the Eldos over the weekend and didn't want too many of them out.

With the 17500s out, more 6162s or late 6200s are on the move or retired, likely headed to West.  The Orions are definitely leaving if there are officially only 35 left.
