You never know the situation at hand.  Do some officers abuse this because they are lazy?  Absolutely.   But there are some situations where that might be the closest spot or only spot to park on a call.  A situation could escalate where the police need to move quickly.   You want the police to be responsive in the hood like they are downtown,  but you want to restrict them from parking?  There's no parking downtown.

Would you rather drive a cold bus sitting in the yard or a warm bus in front of the garage?

Maybe write a nice letter for the love of your life  Lori Lightfoot.   It's February so you might get one of the local news channels to do an investigation report on them.  Maybe start YouTube or Instagram channel filming these scenarios and hope it goes viral.  Just make sure it doesn't trace back to you.   Also be prepared for the police to start ticketing bus drivers for headlights, taillughts,, and marker lights being out, failure to signal, and other things that the police ignore when it comes to CTA bus drivers.  Hopefully that doesn't include slower responses to CTA i n emergecies.

There was an accompanying story about a CTA train operator being attacked by two passengers.   In both instances the attackers were females.   Now you have to watch the women too.

I'll never forget the incident where two drunk women threw liquor and milk crates at a bus driver. One of the most bizzare transit crimes I'd ever heard of

Remember what happened to the Cleveland driver that knocked out his  female passenger?

But she bit him what he's suppose to let somebody bite on him & just like if you are a driver & somebody jump on you & you beat the dog mess out of them should you lose your job for defending yourself no cant let nobody attack you

Enough operators have been assaulted, but the driver should have stayed behind the shield and hit the emergency button.

What you are suggesting would get you arrested for battery. Want to wear a gps bracelet for a while?

How would it get you arrested that is self defesne if you would get arrested then how come I didn't get arrested when I was attacked last year on the 82 at Jackson & I beat dude up & that should dont protect you idk why y'all think it do when people can swing around it & all

Because the line btwn self-defense & battery is narrow. There’s a reason the bus driver that suplexed the dude a while back was fired.

You could’ve been arrested any time after you starting beating that dude up and it’d could’ve been a justifiable arrest. Whether or not the city could’ve made whatever charges they threw at you stick, is a different story.

Once your assailant has stopped attacking, is fleeing or is otherwise incapable of fighting back/is no longer attacking you/being an active threat, self defense goes away. Same way that shooting a robber fleeing with your things isn’t self defense.

That said, drivers do need better protections, police pretty much already give them a wide berth in how they respond to altercations and public opinion is typically in de facto support of bus drivers. CTA themselves might actually be the bigger problem in those scenarios.

See yea once the person if leaving or can't fight then you get charged but if a person is attacking you then you got all rights to fight & yea we do the police dont do nothing unless your in certain parts of the city the sheilds dont protect you cameras aint nothing cause cpd dont look to track a person down so we are forced to fight

You'll have to ask the cop. But usually it is a question for the jury. By your logic, Kyle Rittenhouse never should have been arrested. And your rhetoric indicates an intent other than self-defense.  Self defense is only the amount of force needed to repel the threat, not "you beat the dog mess out of them." That shows intent on your part to commit a crime.

What @NewFlyerMCI said is essentially correct. But the "thug life" reflected in your post is why there is all the violence these days.

The Supplex heard around the world is irrelevant with your point because that operator got off his bus heading in the opposite direction to help out that operator within that situation. In the case of the latest incident if someone bites my arm while I'm operating and the bus is moving best believe I'm doing everything in my power to secure the bus and then defend myself because that right there is unacceptable. We're taught not to be the aggressors in these situations but if were provoked and hit first two things are suppose to happen. One get away from the offender especially if it gets physical and two fight for dear life. Now when the offender is no longer a threat that is when we're suppose to back off but with all that pent up aggression it is hard to subside when you're consistently getting tested day in and day out. I mentioned late last year how things are very militant when it comes to operators being discipline and having restraint towards clocking these passengers up side the head. A lot of these passengers don't want to catch the right operator on the wrong day because best believe they'll receive a two piece without the biscuit.

It's not thug life but if someone attacks me they getting beat up till they fall or either run off just like the last fight I had dude attack me & he got beat up until he cwaled to the back of the bus when I seen him do that I stopped & was never charged & that was last summer
