The engine caught on fire on this cold day. If 8594 is being repaired then 8660 will be first to be retired. Video of the firemen putting out the flames: https://youtube.com/watch?v=7R-5zOV-F1A This happened on 8144, 8340, and now 8660. Something seems to be up with the Novas. Thanks for the video. From the outside it looks like the bus is intact but I don't know if there's any structural damage to the frame. CTA might try to get a replacement bus from Nova. If unsuccessful they may opt for retirement (LTH).

YoungBusLover
Just got some insight on #8660 and the overall damage is mainly to the engine and rear electrical components with the HVAC. With CFD getting to the scene as quickly as they did to diminish any further damage to the bus. The interior near the rear has no fire damage at all, seats were left undamaged among other miscellaneous parts on the interior. Even with bus being under warranty the debate of whether or not it get repaired is mute at this point.

The 6400s will always be my favorite series out of all. At least you have the 8350s. That's what replaced the 6400s.

These #7900 - #8900s remind me of the #4400s and #5800s which were fire prone buses of the past especially the #4400s post rehab. I don't know what the issues are when it concerns the LFS though. I've always had my gripes about them while operating them and when that high exhaust temp light goes off on the dashboard I get a bit nervous more often then not now. The 5800s were more fire prone after their overhaul. The only busses I never heard of catching fire was the flxibles. If anything most that were retired early were wreck victims

ajm522
I think 6 or 7 getting some are dwindling. Looks like the rest will be divided up between C/NP unless they are just sending whatever for now.

Even though the money was earmarked for 6 buses and 103rd garage chargers, they never did put an electric Nova order up for board approval. There is, however, an outstanding order for 22 PhoenixEV (Proterra successor) buses that should be delivered later this year and would likely just be a continuation of the 600 series. 16 minutes ago, jtrussel said: Is 3 still in the works to receive a handful of electric Novas or has that been scrapped You're answer is right here chief.
