Guest
Yesterday while at the firehouse, I responded to an accident involving New Flyer #1092 on the 53 Pulaski NB at Fillmore. Our truck company and four ambulances responded. There were several injuries, there was no damage to the bus. From what witnesses stated the bus was cut off by a car, struck the car, some of the passengers were hurt from the bus braking hard, no damage was noted on the bus. The call came in to the firehouse as "accident involving a bus, S. Pulaski Rd/Fillmore ave. CTA bus #1092" Also yesterday I saw NF #1719 on the 52 Kedzie/Cal and this morning I spotted New Flyer #1720 on the 18 16/18 route at Pulaski just as that nasty storm rolled through. The darkness of the storm made the lighted interior of that New Flyer look very blue, the bus looked bright and shiny.
BusHunter
Well the mystery of 1666 being here or not is solved. It is here. It's in service on the 12 Roosevelt today. Just thought I'd let you know since you and I both have been wondering if it was ever delivered with there not being a reported sighting of it until today. I knew it had been delivered, (only #1631 has that problem) I was just referencing to the point that it's a 666 bus. I was wondering if the operators were scared to drive it, because I hadn't seen it. Thanks anyway for the info Jajuan, at least we have a sighting now. BTW, I did see #1716 out on the #10 yesterday. I see we are up to #1720. Consider yourself lucky if you can ride a TMC out of Kedzie garage now. The TMC count should be in the teens. This could be there last week in service there. But yes we do have a sighting now. Getting a ride on a TMC out of Kedzie has been hit or miss for me at least for over two months though I was still getting sightings of them. My last ride on a Kedzie TMC was on the evening of June 6th on the 12 Roosevelt, one of few Kedzie routes where you could spot a TMC, and that was after a month and a half. My chances now are close to zero if I did want to catch one.

BusHunter
Off topic, saw 1700 and 1703 and a couple others, forgot what numbers, on the 8 Halsted today. I dunno if you out there have noticed this, but the newer New Flyers with LEDs inside appear to be getting some sort of "filter" or cover for them, making the light somewhat blurry, like the 4400s, 5300s, 5800s, and 6000s. Those are the same covers I'm talking about on post #1678 buses. There still LED but have a purplish blue haze to them. They emit more light than the #1630's lightbar. All the post #1630's buses now are getting the same lightbar in exchange for what they had ( the ones with little lines of light.) Soon the 2 months old #1630's lightbar will be history. Buslover88
Yesterday, while out in Downtown, I spotted 1715 on #126 Jackson and 1716 on #7 Harrison. I think I even saw 1719, but i'm not too sure. The 1700s I saw yesterday had the purplish/bluish light and it looked good on those buses. There were quite a few #1700's out on the #126 and #7 for last night's rush. #1720 was on the #126 followed by #1721. #1710,#1716,#1718 and #1722 were all out on the #7. #1711 was also out on the #148 and #1712 was on the #129. I did also manage to spot a few TMC's from Kedzie among them #4445, #4485 and #4628. #4405 was on the #22 and #4433 was on the #151 to Devon/Clark so it's sounds as if those two have moved to NP. Busjack
The front page of the Tribune had this picture supposedly of Huberman showing off a hybrid bus. However, it is 1731, as is obvious.

I happened to spot 1720 on the 12 Roosevelt this afternoon. So it looks like the hybrids and the diesel NFs from Kedzie are getting more work now on the 148 during the PM rush outside of their heavy use on this route during the AM rush. Buslover88 spotted 906 on the 148 yesterday too.

So, given the location of today's press conference, 1731 is at 74th Garage. Hint, hint.

jajuan
I knew it all along ;-) Looks like management finally went with what made sense as I've been arguing that they should do. It also looks like deliveries to Kedzie are now finished or closed to finished if there happen to be gaps between 1731 and the last buses to go to Kedzie. jajuan
Could this be a sign that 74th is getting new flyers next? If the picture in the Trib along with the news clip from Channel 7 is any indication, that just may be the case.
Busjack
If the picture in the Trib along with the news clip from Channel 7 is any indication, that just may be the case. That's what I thought at about 5:30 yesterday. However, I also note that the clip at 10 p.m. on Channel 5 seemed to focus more on the junk on the lot (i.e. a 5300, 4400, and 6200, respectively) than the experimental bus. But, anyway, its about time. And, if they are going 100 at a time, 1731 would be near the beginning of the next group.

BusHunter
So, given the location of today's press conference, 1731 is at 74th Garage. Hint, hint. Yes, but it could be argued that #802 which was sitting beside it is not a 74th bus. If that were true what's it doing there. If you notice the best buses in the fleet were there. (other than #4488). #6234 perhaps the freshest #6000 rehab, #1731 which is so new it hasn't hit the street yet (probably this weekend), and #802 sporting current hybrid technology. Now just because the Hybrid designline bus was at 74th, do we assume it will be transversing 74th's routes. I would think something that you would want to publicize would travel downtown, perhaps as a #10. I get the feeling that #1731 is still a Kedzie bus. There are still a few TMC's around, too many to make the cutoff at #1730. I've seen 4 Jajuan has seen 1. That's 5. That would put us to at least #1727 and I'm sure I didn't see all of Kedzie's TMC buses. I still need more convincing. BTW, thanks for the picture Busjack, on the channel 5 news at 10:00 P.M. they showed all the buses at the press conference and the angle on #1731 was bad. I couldn't tell if it was #1731 or #1721. Thanks for clearing that up. You know twice now it has been reported that 110 NF's with the lighter weight are in service. That would mean #1630 - #1739 is here. Could this be a typo, because that is what the CTA says in their press releases and I don't think were that high yet.

I'm also going to predict that Kedzie will recieve up to NF #1739, since I don't believe that 100 NFs are sufficient enough to replace all TMCs there. Considering that Kedzie was reported to be over capacity immediately following March 23rd and the start of spring changes with about 104 TMCs at the time, it shouldn't be hard to operate with a 4 bus difference. Of course, they're going to put what's currently the best of each model in the fleet when it comes to a press conference. We've seen them do it before. That in itself is insignificant considering 807 has managed to be put inservice where it's not assigned because of the need for a decent looking bus to put in front of the camera. However, the argument can still be turned around the question asked why do the conference at 74th? After the consolidations at Archer and Chicago, Chicago gets highlighted in the news as being a testbed for the changes in maintenance procedures to justify this move. For once, I couldn't spot any Kedzie TMC's. It's very close to the end there, I think within the last 10. If #1731 is indeed a 74th bus, it should be showing up very shortly. To answer your question, I think a transfer to 77th, with a few buses being retired along the way, most likely cummins ones.
