sht6131 Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 The burbs are not that great either. The side street sensors does not give consideration to the free flow of traffic on the main street it intersects. Starting on a green from a main intersection will result in a red from a side street with a sensor because a vehicle is pulled up to the intersection. That results in missing the next main traffic single because you are out of traffic sync. The only one in Chicago that worked was Sheridan. All lights were green for three minutes between Devon and Howard

All lights were green for three minutes between Devon and Howard I don't care about the side street sensors, it's the ones at the major intersections where the burbs are all fully actuated, which is the term the traffic engineers use. Chicago simply refuses to use the sensor loops, even though they apparently install them at all redone traffic lights. I'm old enough to remember when all Chicago traffic lights at night, other than at the busiest intersections went to flashing red or flashing yellow from Midnight to 5AM or 6 AM. You could drive down Western from Howard & only encounter flashing read at Peterson, Foster, Lincoln/Lawrence, Irving Park, Belmont, Diversey/Elston, North & Lake. used to go to the Allied Radio midnight sales at 100 N. Western. I fail to understand why the traffic lights at side streets that intersect with a main street don't flash red all night for the side street & flash yellow all night for the main street. It would lower pollution, due to eliminating starts & stops of cars & trucks, which is when they pollute the most. 1

All lights were green for three minutes between Devon and Howard A big part of the issue is our MAIN STREETS have significant 2-lane stretches (and unfortunately some of those are the busy lines [79, 22, 87, parts of 4, 36, 53, 77]). That also limits potential improvements that can be implemented to speed up service. If more of our main streets stayed consistently wide like Western or Ashland traffic would probably spread out a bit more instead of funnelling into certain choke points 1
TaylorTank1229 Posted March 6 Author Report Posted March 6 Anyone got any word on the effect date for Spring 2026 bus pick? I’d assume it’s this month, unless it ends up being in April this year.

The other routes announced with it (18, 147, 157) all got later service. 73 was never implemented for some reason, perhaps the Cortland Street Bridge project and its silly bus detour?

The things that seem like they would seriously be pursued is the 55A/55N/62H consolidation, the 88/92 changes, 54B and whatever elimination/expansion of the 2-3 owl routes. The consolidations would free up buses to go towards the expansions

It makes sense with Archer being so close to and becoming 55th. What doesn't make sense is this time it's supposed to go to 63rd/Harlem where the 62H ends so apparently the new 55W wouldn't serve Narragansett or Austin. At least @Busjack's idea of running via 59th spreads coverage.

Rhys Pate Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Should the CTA consider an extension of the 85 south of Central/Harrison (such as to 54th/Cermak Pink Line)? 1
MetroShadow Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 18 hours ago, Rhys Pate said: Should the CTA consider an extension of the 85 south of Central/Harrison (such as to 54th/Cermak Pink Line)? No, for two reasons: 316 covers that same area, on Laramie, and might not be productive coverage-wise. Because of NITA, Central (Blue) could be rebuilt. If it's not Central (or instead, Cicero/Laramie), then maybe extend the 85.

Tcmetro Posted April 6 Report Posted April 6 This is on the agenda for the 4/8/2026 Committee on Strategic Planning and Service Delivery as well as for the Chicago Transit Board: Review of an ordinance authorizing the implementation of an extension of bus route #10 Museum of Science and Industry, implementation of yearlong bus service, and renaming to #10 Obama Presidential Center/Museum of Science & Industry Express. https://www.transitchicago.com/assets/1/21/April_2026_-_SP_Committee_Agenda.pdf?43388 https://www.transitchicago.com/assets/1/21/April_2026_-_Regular_Board_Agenda1.pdf?43391 1

Since the Museum of Science and Industry was paying for the #10 bus, I wonder if the Obama Foundation will now have to chip in (I guess we'll find out at the meeting). I also wonder if any modifications are to be made to #63 to encourage a connection to the Green Line. Maybe with the 63rd Beach schedule change. 1

At the meeting, it was represented that this was expected to triple ridership, and how the Obama Center is also served by 55 and 63, which are on the Frequent Network. Supposed to be implemented Memorial Day weekend. 1
Elkmn Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 I know the headsign's going to be something boring like "10 GMSI & Obama Pres. Center to Obama Pres. Center" but it would be so funny if it said "10 Obama to Obama" 2
