Now that the 4 or 5 Archer/Chicago Nova's are back at their original garages.(#6563,#6623,#6627,#6628,#6667) There is now a new set of buses at Forest Glen from 77th. Right now #6515 is on the #152 Addison and #6505 is on the #90 Harlem I wonder what's going on now?

Wow! My guess was correct. In order to isolate the Novas at two garages (Archer and Forest Glen), the two other garages with Novas (Chicago and 77th) must send their's to the other two. Like I said in the other topic, if Chicago is sending their Novas to Archer, then the only other reasonable explanation would be for 77th to send their Novas to Forest Glen.

Ok. Makes sense. But where would the 6000s from Forest Glen go? You'd still need to move them to make room for all the Novas from 77th. 74th wouldn't be able to take them all because you have 330 (subtract the few that have been retired from this number) that would need to fit in a roughly 250 bus capacity garage.

There was the rmadison hint that the 4400s would be out of NP much sooner than the replacement schedule indicates. He didn't deny my supposition.

I was talking to a driver on the 136 yesteday, and we were discussing the TMCs. I asked him what he thought about the retirement of the TMCs. What he said was, "Man, they say it's gonna be 2009. I don't know. I mean, heads at the garage been saying that they gonna be outta here soon. Man, I don't know for sure. All I do know is that I hate getting stuck behind one when they on the 144."

Add 6508, spotted on Foster this morning.

Also #6514 was on Addison yesterday afternoon. It sounds like #6505 - #6516 have been swapped to Forest Glen. I seen #6503 on 29 yesterday so 77th still has #6408 - #6503. Don't know the status of #6504.

More changes. I seen #6014 on the 9 on sunday and #4823 was on the 3 yesterday and #4854 was on the 2. The 6000's are getting less every day at 103rd. They are now down to #6000 - #6013, #6081 - #6102. Also 74th seems to be losing their TMC's.

Maybe Some of Forest Glen 6000s are going back to 77th after seven years since 6400s came to CTA.

Actually, they should be down to...nothing. It's all part of the push to consolidate fleet types at garages.

Today, it was mentioned that we'd be retiring 40-50 buses a month (which generally matches the 10/week delivery schedule of the New Flyer 40-footers, give or take, plus whatever the artics do), and could start retiring the 5800s by the end of this year or early next year.

This surprises me a bit, since they got the new engines at Bus & Truck.

REALLY? My best friend, who works at NP, said that all that is correct except for the stuff about the 5800s. He said that, after further interrogation, he was informed that the 5800s certainly won't be retired until, at the earliest, May of next year.

Now, would not May be early next year...as rmad said, hmmmmmmmm????????

Rmad, do you know why they want to do this? I think it's a very dumb idea because i'm sure no bus fan wants to travel all over to city just to find a certain bus type (I would but don't have the money to travel all over). No offense, but this is very immature of CTA if you ask me.

I must conclude that we all dislike the changes as busfans, but the CTA is not immature just because they want to bring down maintenance costs.

That brings down maintenance costs? I don't think so. In fact, with all the transfers, isn't that bringing UP the costs?

See Post 9129.

And yeah, it does kind of make sense that this will reduce maintenance costs, but it is sad that only certain areas will ride certain bus types.

In a sense, I would agree, since some buses are going across town, and that uses up a lot of fuel.

With all due respect, I highly doubt CTA management asks the question "How will the busfans feel about this?" every time they make a decision.

No offense, but that doesn't help me.

It's alright, I'm not really helpful in answering questions

True, since they are focused on other issues on the CTA that they have to work out.

I know they don't, but it still kind of angers me with a proposal such as that. It probably doesn't hurt any of you but it hurts me.

Look at the bright side: your local garage will have the most modern fleet in the system.

For what I dont like about CTA is that they dont want to continuing to operate buses over 20 years of age like they did with Fishbowls and 7100s/7300s MAN Artics. Most cities in Canada be having their buses rehabbed twice to remain running for near 30 years of age, but the CTA keep their trains running over 30 years of age like my favorite ones is 2200s which is near 40 years old on Blue/ Pink Line.

I think it will be insane to retire the 5800s next year after only 3 years of Extension life, especially they're New Flyers. Hopelly CTA would order different types instead of New Flyers for retirement of 5800s/ 6000s.

Whoa, wait a minute, I don't think CTA has enough buses on order to replace the #5800's. On 11/29 Rmadison stated 359 TMC's are left and 124 #5300's are left. We were up to around #1548 at that point. We've gained 30 New Flyers since then. So add 329 and 124 you get 453. Now add the #6000's 328 + 453 = 781. Well we only have 450 buses left to the #1000 order ,and 150 artics replacing roughly 200 buses according to reports. 450 + 200 = 650. I am getting 131 buses needing replacement just for the #6000's, so how can they replace the #5800's ?
