Busjack
Only for the point that you could recognize the route where that bus was, as opposed to the one about which 5750 asked, which apparently was a CTA bus (working through what trainman said). But, as us editors say, you do raise a mutual exclusivity issue.

BusHunter
According to this http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.p...=329&pos=54 , 5769 has been gone since 2005. #5769 is still around I rode the bus about 3 months ago. The picture refers to it being on the scrap line. The question is was that the scrap line or a misinterpretation on part of the photographer? I'm starting to wonder about #5746 I haven't seen this bus since it got transferred to Chicago. Could it be next? I hope not!! On a sidenote does anyone know why #5769 - #5765 were delivered with a brown box that was at the interior roof line at the rear of the bus. This seemed to attach to the engine compartment from inside the bus. I always thought it was some type of filter. It was definitely a test of some sort. Anyway the device has been removed on #5769 but the framework of the casing that held it can still be seen today.

But they were good pictures because I've never been over to 92nd/Ewing. That was a job well done jerry. I look forward to seeing what other pictures you can get over there. Thank you!! But they were good pictures because I've never been over to 92nd/Ewing. That was a job well done jerry. I look forward to seeing what other pictures you can get over there. Thank you!! Thank you BusHunter and to all the other busfans, yes what a sad time indeed, it does feel like the end of an era, it finally hit me!. Its one thing when you read about a bus number retired whether on this site or by word of mouth but when you actually see the bus, especially one you remember driving, sitting in a scrapyard, knowing that they will soon be a meal for the shredding machine it was really tough to look at. To see those buses that have been such a fixture for almost 20 years finally meeting their fate. I plan to make more trips to the scrapyard in the next few days and few weeks possibly to see what else turns up. If anyone wants to join me, by all means! But it is a sad site to see for all Chicago busfans. If there was one wish I could have for these buses is that they would be sent to a graveyard just as military and commercial aircraft have out in the deserts of Arizona where although they wont run anymore but they can be viewed and appreciated for historical purposes. If theres one bus I would not want to witness go to the shredder would be Flxible #5577. That was the very last bus I rode with my dad on, the day he retired in 1998. RIPTA42
Here are some pics I took earlier today at the scrapyards off of 92nd/Ewing ave... Hey, I was just there on Sunday. There were four more TMCs, two stacks of two, between 5456/4514 and the river. I also passed by South Shops; I only noticed on Flxible on the way out, along with six Flyer work buses and lots of RTSes.

Guest
Right along the fence? I didn't see that on Sunday, but there was a Fishbowl parked deeper in the lot. As I passed yesterday they were all parked along the fence on Perry. The 5900 Ballards were also near the fence as well as some Flyer WBs. But if you go to the 79th st. side at the west end near Vincennes there are a large group of the current models parked along the fence there. I like looking at the Vincennes side, the old streetcar shops.
cta_44499_FG
Here are some pics I took earlier today at the scrapyards off of 92nd/Ewing ave. What a sad site to see! Flxible #5456 and TMC #4514 awaiting their final trip to the shredders. Its too bad we cant go in and grab the parts still on the buses, especially the Flxible nameplate and the run boxes. The Flxible has written on it "scrapped 2-15-08". And on the other end of the junkyard I found these other TMCs. To see #4479 was sad to look at because I drove this bus out of North Park. There are more TMC buses there but they werent accessible to photograph. Luckily in that exact spot there were city garbage containers, I was able to climb up on to see over the fence, so I was able to get a clear view of the three TMCs and off to the right out of the picture there are more buses but my view was obstructed by large chunks of concrete, I couldnt get a good shot. Nos. #5456 and TMC 4514 are in clear view from the bridge on Ewing ave. From here I headed down to Pace South Holland acceptance facility, John LeBeau was a big help in directing me to the facility, thanks John!. I took some pics there as well that I will also post. Maybe someone recognizes the run number on the CTA TMC 4669(#341) and knows what the last street this bus ran on. I plan to make more trips as more buses arrive here. I remember driving 4479 and 4514 many times on the N201 and even Clark and Sheridan. It is sad indeed. Many of the RTSs were not shabby at all. Sad indeed. I believe there is a 7100 series (7139 but I'm not sure) artic back there too. Next time I go to the maintenence building i'll try to get some pix. Many of the RTSs were not shabby at all. Sad indeed. I liked the look and sound of the RTS, they were and still are one of my favorites. When I worked at Kedzie we had the MANs, Flyers and Flxible 6000s, but later the RTS arrived, my first RTS was #4485 on the #60 Blue Island/26, it was awesome. I loved how the drivers seat sits up higher than other buses. You felt like you were driving a truck. I always enjoyed getting behind the wheel of an RTS. I never had a bad opinion of them. New to the scrapyards are #5375, #5408, #5458 and #5648. Also if you count cta5750's #5614 as gone that will bring you to 97. It's most likely gone from revenue service, the question is that is it totally gone to the scrapyard or hanging around as a harvester for parts. They only buses they use, from what i've seen, are #5476, #5478, #5492, #5493 and #5569. They don't use the other ones you listed. By the way, does anybody know where #5499 is? That is my favorite Flxible bus of all time.

Chicago Garage uses almost all of its 5300s during weekdays. Probably none on weekends, but maybe a couple here and there.

Probably none on weekends, but maybe a couple here and there. What I mean is that almost half (if not many) of the remaining Flxible buses at Chicago aren't used. That simple. I know they're retiring, but you'd think CTA would use them alot before they retired. By the way, i'm only talking about #76 and perhaps #20 (what i've seen on the tracker) here, so I could be wrong, and if I am proved wrong, I will apologize . Now, can anybody please tell me where #5499 is? I just want to hear about if its still here or if its gone (though I wouldn't like hearing that very much). Busjack
I know they're retiring, but you'd think CTA would use them alot before they retired. Not really. Since they are way past their retirement date, you would think they would be the last to be used, and probably are spares. Would you use a 1300 that is a year old, or a 17 year old, which probably leaks, at least?

It hasn't shown up on any of the what's left lists in this thread.
