4325 is on #147. So NP lost 1540&1544 to 77th and got 4321,4324 and 4325 from K.

So apparently the viaduct clearence issue with the 4300 hybrid artics has been resolved to NP's satisfaction? Next thing we'll see is NP taking 103rd's 4300s, lol

The viaduct issue died when CTA pulled 145/148 from going to Damen via westbound Wilson. The UP-North viaduct over Wilson is where they were having the problem (IIRC a 10' 4" clearance vs the 10' 6" to 11' 2" height of CTA hybrid buses). The 145 getting killed and 148 pulled from Wilson further drove the nail into that particular coffin. But you do raise the issue of the possible perception that NP is now the gimme garage when it comes to the artics and how far CTA will push that "golden child" status against the other three remaining artic garages when it comes to 4300 assignments.

Are you sure 5500s and 5600s went to 77th before they went to FG? The way I remember it is FG got 5500s and half of the 5600s brand new after 103rd and then the old Lawndale got their share of that model respectively. Some 5500s and those 5600s spent some time at 77th in mid-1994 going into 1995 as a measure to temporarily even out wheelchair buses with air conditioning against those without after complaints that most of the air conditioned buses were on the north and northwest sides compared to the southside (even though Archer and 103rd both had the 1991 Flxibles, so the complaints were pretty much because of the gaps left from 77th not having Flxibles allowing the local media at the time to fan the flames from the perception that there was a possible racial element at play in how buses got distributed). Once the 6000s started coming in though which went to 77th first, FG got its 5500s and 5600s back from 77th but kept a chunk of the TMCs it received because the 6000s and the 5800s arrival at NP meant more routes could be made wheelchair accessible. But either way, FG got those 5500s and 5600s brand new, gave most of them up for about a year, but got them back because 77th got the first 6000s. So that wasn't a castoff situation. And let's not forget the fact that even if the NFs FG got were previously at other garages first, they still were only a year to a year and a half old at the time and still brought FG's average fleet age down significantly.

yeah but the point is they came from 77th even though Fg had them first.

If 77th doesn't want them for 79th, the only routes left that seem to have any need for them are 9 and 49. But since everyone says that 74th can't handle them, it seems like there is no point in awarding the contract for artics, and just order the 150 40 footers. I, of course, am not putting any money on the Ashland BRT.

The real joke would have been if the 500 or the 900 artics would have started showing up this year. :D:o

I got that point and 77th only had them no more than a year if it was even that long, so that's not a hand me down situation from another garage to 77th like other situations that more legitimately called that even though in some of the other cases the buses involved were still relatively new. It was giving FG back what was theirs to begin with.

The question with 74th is whether it got retrofitted with maintenance lifts that can accommodate an artic from CTA's present and not one of those from CTA's past of 1980s vintage since somehow when 74th got built the designers got it in their heads that the 7100s represented standard artic lengths when MAN having sold Seattle the 7300s showed otherwise long before CTA went to NABI or New Flyer for artics. Going beyond that the 49 should be looked at well before the 9 because riders just don't stay on the 9 for a ride as long as the rides seen on the 49. And yeah the 9 has a lot of passenger hits that show up on passenger reports, but looking past just the numbers, those numbers are more spread over the course of the service day than on other high passenger core routes that says put steer artics to any of those routes before the 9. And even if there were serious thought to converting 9 and/or 49 to artics, the number needed to cover rush hour because of the long lengths of both is high enough to suck up at least a third of the just over 300 artics CTA currently has. That new contract wouldn't bring in a number that leaves much room to cover much anything else even with the shared coverage of 49 between NP and 74th. Another reason why I previously said it's better to do partial coverage and not full coverage as you were speaking of.

Damn! It seems like FG is on an extreme restriction with the Novas until more new ones arrive. Sadly to say that we're still going to deal with a ton of barking and whining about it for a while.

Well there's at least one person on here who wouldn't complain about FG still being stuck with all 6400s, and that's Andre if he's still at FG. I remember he a post he put up where he was saying from an operator's point of view he preferred 6400s over NF 1000s.

That's because he never drove them being stuck in the land of the boxes, 103rd a NF garage. In all honesty the AC is better on the FG buses than the new #7900's, which always seem warm to hot.

You wouldn't be changing your mind on your feelings about FG being all 6400s, would you?

Uh oh It's Kedzie's revenge. Lol!! Anyone want any Novas from fg? Lol!!

Lol if i had the power to bring them over to 103rd I would've brought them over a while ago I love those nova buses both old and new. I see new flyers all day to the point where it's refreshing to see a nova bus lol. Hey at least I can say I had the chance of driving them before on the 29, 3 times to be exact lol.

I wouldn't go that far. Lol!! Just as he's tired of nf's, I'm tired of 12 years of #6400's with no more than a 20 percent chance ever of getting a nf out of that garage. But I do remember when the #6800's were new. They were sweet for many years but nothing lasts forever. They have gone downhill in some respects, but at least they run. They could look and run better though if they weren't so overwhelmed with old buses that need constant attention.

I understand. I admit to being spoiled by living mainly in NP territory and still seeing a mix in my area from FG routes intersecting the mostly NP ones I see. Lol
