Update, 6/30/12, 10:53a: Addison station reopened for use early this morning. Not sure what was the cause of a complete shutdown because somebody tripped. But when they mention "Physical structure of the platform", that sounds very, very dangerous... especially when you're about 20 feet off the ground. What does that mean? The wooden planks? the blue lego-like strip by the tracks? the ironwork supporting and holding the platform up? And if this physical structure issue stems from a rushed "Countdown To A New Brown" project several years ago, then I wonder if the CTA might have to perform a do-over on the refurbished platforms in the next few years. I remember when the project was presented, there were two options... Option 1, complete shutdown of the Brown Line while stations get rebuilt or Option 2(CTA's chosen option) Shutdown a station for a period of time and rebuild the existing platform, but no two adjacent stations will be shut down at once.

Sounds more like the report that they used the wrong wood 4 years ago on the Brown Line rehab.

Got my first look at the Addison Brown Line station today. It looks like more than the wood was an issue here, as therese photos can attest.to... both the Loop and Kimball platforms have these yellow boards right near the tracks where the blue Lego-like strips were at.

All it does is reinforce what I said on the CTA Tattler that the CTA will never get in a state of good repair, because things that were claimed to be fixed were not. Somebody tried to challenge me by claiming that Fullerton hadn't fallen apart in about 3 years, but it is supposed to have a 40 year service life.

Claypool may try to pull the wool over the eyes with regard to the last Dan Ryan project and need for this one (such as his claim that the stations had not had work since the early 1990s), but I don't see how CTA can avoid taking the blame on the Brown Line one.

Well they couldn't have fixed this line all that much beyond lengthening the station platforms outside of the Loop area and beyond the Fullerton and Belmont stops because I pass under Addison stop as a matter of fact just about every day, and the structure under the tracks along with the supports passing over Lincoln Avenue are still badly rusted out.

They supposedly did some welding. They also supposedly replaced substatioins, but someone pointed out on the CTA Tatter that Forrest is now claiming that he is doing something by replacing a substation now:

Anyone know more about the substation project mentioned in the presentation link? There's not much info there, just some pictures that currently show what is there. Are these replacing something or adding power/redundancy to the system?

Anyway, I was trying to make the more obvious point that CTA admitted that one of its dummies specified wood that was fire retardant treated but not pressure treated for rot. In that sw posted a picture showing that something looking like plywood or OSB had to be put on the platform, it seems like that incompetence became obvious and dangerous early.

But, from what you say, they probably did the same Homer Simpson job on the structure that they did on the Green Line, so expect the slow zones soon.

Sounds like for some reason they don't want to log in Pink Line trains as being on a run to the Loop. Doesn't make sense, even if they don't have a pink Roosevelt sign.
