sw4400
Ah, you're right. I haven't confirmed whether or not those have LEDs. I'll take them off for now.EDIT: Oops, nope, just a typo. I'll fix it.Far as I know, 3351-3352 are still awaiting repairs from the idiot who went around lowered gates at Kedzie, causing the train to hit their vehicle and derail into the platform. Pace831
November 2010http://abc7chicago.com/archive/7813026/Must have been pretty bad damage if they still haven't been fixed. Or repairing them is a low priority.

I'll see if I can link to the pics later, but here's the archived story....BTW: 3435-3436 were also damaged when they hit a unmarked police car going around lowered gates at Kedzie, but that train didn't derail and crash into the platform. It wouldn't make any sense just to have one mate retrofitted but not both of them.

briman94
Brown Line run #404, seen NB at Sedgwick at 7:09 am today, has two cars with LED interior lighting and LED destination signs in the middle of the train. Likely two fully rehabbed cars. Didn't get numbers but I think they ended in 79-80 (I just saw the prototypes, 3379-3380, yesterday, so if I saw right, it'd have to be 3279-3280, yes?) BusHunter
#3443-44 just passed nb at Fullerton on the brown cars 3&4. They have the new lighting. I'm trying to chase them down on the red line right now.
BusHunter
No dice, but maybe they'll come back south. In kimball yard #3289-90 looked very suspicious of being rehabbed with its shiny new wheels.Run #406 is #3443's follower. Funny the tracker says im on #414, the suspect train is #413. Damn I think it's pulling in. Tracker doesn't show a sb for it. Edited November 18, 2015 by BusHunter
BusHunter
Ok I played a hunch guessed correctly and Im on the rehabbed car. Doesn't look much different. Lights are changed seats are changed floor has been cleaned door sashes are new. I took some pictures and will be uploading later. Presently pulling into paulina sb if anyones interested. Run is #422 Edited November 18, 2015 by BusHunter

BusHunter
It was in the middle of the consist, but before when I saw #406, that was the runs dialed in on the manual box in the unrehabbed car.Well anyway here are my shots, i made sure to stick around to get an undercar components shot, because that shows it was a full rehab, not just signs. Here is an interior shot

Cool! It's getting more and more difficult to make out a 5000 vs a 3200 from a distance; soon we'll need the numbers or the side windows to tell them apart. Was it any quieter or smoother? Being in a consist with unrehabbed ones probably didn't help the smoothness much.

The doors have been all refreshed with new rubber and they look new. You can see there were no inside scrolling public info signs like the #5000's, so that was a disappointment. I didn't like how they never replaced the linoleum on the floor. I can show you what i mean I have pictures. (Now that I look at it they did the main aisles only!!) I was looking at the #2600's and the floors are in better condition. This seems like a #2400 rehab, new components, cleaner, mostly just a refresher than an upgrade. I'd call it rehab lite!! BTW, the lights are way brighter. Here's some more shotsThey got those yucky blue fiberglass seats in where the motorman is. I thought I took a shot of that, maybe you could see the LED signs. Must have been "too much labor" for them; I can't imagine it would have been very expensive compared to the other stuff they did. I guess it was too time consuming to do the cutouts for the floor there.

I heard that they were replacing or redoing the HVAC/ventilation system, and those make a distinctive noise on the 3200s.

Being in a consist with unrehabbed ones probably didn't help the smoothness much. There still will be the difference in the side windows; if nothing else a 5000 has a smaller window on the left side of the cab end, compared to the window on the right side. However, I'm sure that's not discernible at a distance.

It just sounded like a new or freshly rehabbed #3200 series car. The operator wasn't running the air or vents though. They might sound different if the AC were turned on. Busjack
I got pictures of the yucky seat!!or turned right side upLooks similar in theory to the 2000s, which did not have a dedicated operator's seat. Looks like an ADA seat without the wheelchair restraint, but the theory must have been that the operator didn't want to trip over the seat when getting to the door control. I set my coffee and backpack down there and lean on the window sill (which, BTW, is where the A/C comes out in the summer ) Edited November 19, 2015 by briman94
