nflyer22
1730 was on the 124 today. Coming to you all from Hong Kong, miss everyone and the buses back home in Chicago, especially all the oldes that will be probably mostly gone in August when I'm coming back, keep up all your postings, I'll be reading all of them! If you want anything small here in Hong Kong that I could bring back, I'll try my best to get it for you! Wow, surprisingly I thought Kedzie would get only up to 1729, and like we all had thought, 1730+ would go to 74th, seeing the likelihood of it after that presentation/meeting at 74th. With that said, we all just gotta wait it out and see what surprises lurk ahead within the coming week or 2.

Good to hear from you, hope youre havin a good time and dont be chasing Hong Kong buses ok! They have an interesting rapid transit and streetcar system there, I was there in 1991 I had an awesome time!. Very nice skyline, it wouldnt have been possible without transit, right?? Have a good time and be careful. If you plan to video or photograph the transit there watch your surroundings. BTW, Im on my way to Rockford this weekend Im sure we'll spot mid to high 1730s, maybe even 1740s now! Ill report back once I get out there. jajuan
Quite a number of Kedzie's new NFs were out on the 12 Roosevelt yesterday: 1639 (I think), 1667, 1672, 1674, 1676 and 1712. A lot were out on Kedzie's downtown routes this morning: 1677 and 1715 on the 145/148 am rush combo runs, 1691 on the 145 all day run, 1664, 1675 and 1703 on the 126, 1721 on the 7, and several others on the 124, 125, 143, 151 and 157 that I can't recall the numbers for because I forgot to write down the numbers. Chicago13
Yesterday (Saturday) at about 4:15 pm I saw 3 NF's going eastbound on the Kennedy at Canfield. I didn't see the number on the first one, but the other 2 were 1741 and 1736.

That doesnt happen often since these deliveries started. I came in from Rockford about 1pm, I didnt spot anything coming. I guess you just have to be at the right place at the right time. Saturday is usually the best time to spot new arrivals from the NF factory. :)
kendo26
I just saw 1731 running on the 44. The destination sign still read "Chicago My Kind of Town" So I guess 74th was next

The destination sign still read "Chicago My Kind of Town" So I guess 74th was next That means this time I guessed right from rmadisonwi's hints. My logic along with the clues from the Tribune pics and the local TV station's news clips in regards to the turbine powered hybrid were on point. Sorry to my fellow busfans who were hoping it would be FG. I just didn't see it being FG since it has Novas and more of its 6000s are rehabbed than 74th's. It also means riding on 74th's routes won't be as boring anymore since it got consolidated with all 6000s. Shall I repeat consolidation seems to be flying out the window? BusExpert32
I find it odd, in my opinion, that #1731 was put into service without Bustracker connections on a Bustracker route (also without a proper destination reading and no advertisements). Was it picking up passengers along the 44 route or was it just passing through while not in service? I guess we'll have a more vivid picture of the new scenerio once a few more New Flyers over 1731 hit the streets.
kendo26
It was picking up and dropping off customers. I was on a southbound 44 when I saw it heading northbound. I waited for it to come back from the Halsted Orange Line stop to snap a picture.

Again, was this just coincidence, or did you have some information (you don't have to disclose what it is if it is of a personal nature)? That's excatly what I was thinking. And personally, I don't think FG is getting any New Flyers for at least a few more years.Since all the new bus deliveries (290 some D40LFs, and 150-163) DE60LFs are to be completed in early 2009, as well as 3 track ending in Dec. 2008), whatever gets will get within the year, and it is better betting that FG will get some. Also, as previously noted, since we know that Halsted is getting BRTs, that some will be transferred from Kedzie.

jajuan
I spent the day in downtown today and I found quite a bit of TMCs running up and down Michigan Ave. I counted probably about 7 or 8. But downtown now looks all New Flyers, Novas and NABIs. I spotted Flxible #5417 operating as an Instruction bus. What was weird is I did not spot one Flxible 6000 in downtown, not a single one!. I did see New Flyer #1730 in one hell of a hurry on the 151 Sheridan. That answers my question that I was going to pose earlier of how high Kedzie's NFs go and where 74th's actually start given 1731 was on the 44 yesterday. Plus it does look like for the past few months, FG has stopped assigning 6000s on the 56 Milwaukee. I haven't really seen one on that route since 103rd transferred the 6000s it had to 74th, removing south side 6000s from downtown service. It's almost like FG was following the south side's trend in removing 6000s from downtown service.

As the 1700s continue to arrive at 74th, many of the 6000s will no doubt be going somewhere; my guess is that 'somewhere' will be 103rd Street, as replacements for their 4400s and 5300s. As many posters have observed, that garage has the greatest number of 17-year-old buses. The reassignment of 6000-6086 (with maybe an additional handful thrown in) would probably be enough to replace them all. Just a guess, but North Park will probably be the last barn with TMCs. Likewise Chicago Avenue with 5300s. (That's assuming that 77th Street's TMCs get displaced earlier by the New Flyer Artics.)

BusHunter
I'll assume that 74th might recieve less than 86 New Flyers. I was just wondering that same question. Kevin states "deliveries will not be as numerous". I don't think he means a slowdown in deliveries. (#1741 sure was in a hurry to get here.) He means quantity, which really makes me wonder why stop in at 74th to deliver buses if your not going to give them there fair share? The way deliveries has gone so far there seems to be a desire to put as many NF's on routes that go to the loop as you can. The west side garages (Kedzie and Chicago) which serve the loop heavily have not done bad so far having 420 buses out of the 762 delivered so far. 74th, Archer and FG all have routes that mostly travel outside the loop. If you notice they have the older equipment. I would personally give 74th at least 100 buses, but it sounds like what is stated is that the CTA doesn't really want to equip routes with newer equipment that doesn't go to the loop. We'll have to see how this pans out.
