trainman8119
Talk about a bus being misassigned, I saw 520 downtown on the 56 at 7:00 pm at Washington and Michigan. That means that bus was on the heavy crosstown Milwaukee route in rush hour. Real genius there.
Buslover88
Your kidding, right? The CTA used an Optima on Milwaukee? Do they have any idea how crowded that bus would be? People would trip all over the place!
RIPTA42
If the bus that was supposed to make the run broke down, and an Optima was the only spare available, would you prefer the run be skipped?
Buslover88
No, but they should barrow another bus from another garage, not use an Optima on a heavy crosstown route. Trainman8119, was the bus crowded? If it wasn't, then it would have been just fine. If it was, then i'll stick to my word

MetroShadow
Its similar to using a 7500 bus on a route like the 11 or 64 (using that strictly for example purposes): you know its unnecessary to use a bus that's inappropriate for that route, but if its in your garage, and if a run needs a bus, you go ahead and use it. Yes, it sounds odd (and a 500 on a route like that is), but if it does the trick to transport passengers, then yes.
RIPTA42
There was aon Optima on the 84 last night with the destination sign stuck on INSTRUCTION BUS and a paper sign in the window :)
Buslover88
I saw an Optima yesterday on the #68, leaving Jefferson Park Terminal, and it looked almost empty
trainman8119
I saw an Optima yesterday on the #68, leaving Jefferson Park Terminal, and it looked almost empty I saw one on either 80 or X80 last Saturday, down on inner Lake Shore Drive south of Irving Park. If my memory is good, I think it was 515. The destination sign on that bus is so dim it is useless (saw the same bus on the 84 on the previous Friday too). Less stops=less passengers. This is the best way to use the Optimas at FG. If you are going to put them on routes outside of short, low-ridership ones, put them on express routes. ;)
rmadisonwi
103rd has gained an additional three Optimas (from Forest Glen) to accommodate U of C to supplement the dying Orions. North Park has also started receiving some of those buses. There may be additional garage reassignments with this fleet, but I really couldn't say much more right now. Guest
Yesterday I saw bus 504 on the #173, the destination sign still said: CHICAGO IS (flip) MY KIND OF TOWN. Ive spoken to ex coworkers at FG they tell me the Optimas have been used on Belmont EB morning rush trips. They themselves couldnt believe it. So far "The Glen" has 515, 524, 519, 523.
