I'm glad 103rd was nova free with the first gen because they weren't too good with speed. Definitely didn't sound like they handled lake shore too well the few times I either rode one on the #2 or one got loaned for the #14 or X28 Quote

I think the idea was 103rd, K and P had more older fleets so the flyers went to those garages to balance the age out at places that didn't get the Novas yet. They also tried to go all 6000s at 74th but had to trade them out for some 1000s from 103rd. They were starting to crack down on balancing out the fleet age and consolidation during these years. I take @artthouwill's comment to refer to the joint CTA-Pace solicitation for 250 BEBs, which, at the moment, closes on Oct. 16. But given all of PhoenixEV's defaults (including someone posting a CTA internal document that CTA canceled the order for 22 more), I don't think it will be them. The joint solicitation definitely makes the possibility interesting, but I wouldn’t automatically assume CTA is going to order Gilligs just because they’re participating. There are a lot of factors that go into procurement, and until the contract is awarded, I’d take the speculation with a grain of salt. Quote

If you go back to the wee days of this forum, there were definite things happening, especially at 69th/74th, including that 69th did not have accessible buses, but when 74th opened it got 6000s plus some 4400s from NP (which got 5800s), then when the NFs came, it got 1730-1759 (approx.) just to make up what it was short. It got Novas when Archer closed and the 6000s were mothballed. That, for the first time, put 74th on the same schedule as other garages with Novas. FG was affected by the need to put preheaters on buses at "outdoor garages," so it got K's 6000s in return for its 5300s. FG already had 6400s, so it was comparatively better off. Basically, 103's and NP's fleets fell apart at the same time, so there were the two odd/even splits of 1430-1629 and 1760-1859. After that, 40' buses were replaced pretty much by age, and the need to get rid of 1630-2029s that were rusted. 32 minutes ago, Bus1807 said: The joint solicitation definitely makes the possibility interesting, but I wouldn’t automatically assume CTA is going to order Gilligs just because they’re participating. I said Pace signed a contract for 250 Gillig hybrids and said at a board meeting that it was ordering 8 35' ones for River and CTA can pick from that contract. CTA received a Low/No grant for 150 hybrid buses. Put 2+2 together. The pending procurement is for 250 battery electric buses. Quote

I’m not saying CTA is guaranteed to order Gilligs, but Pace’s existing Gillig hybrid contract, the option for CTA to select buses through that contract, and CTA receiving a Low-No grant for 150 hybrid buses make it a legitimate possibility. The 250-bus battery-electric procurement is a separate matter entirely. I’m connecting the existing contract and funding together, not saying the pending electric bus procurement has anything to do with Gillig hybrids. Quote

I remember us (south east side) having our part of the 1430-1629 but thought K and C had whatever evens or odds 103rd didn't have. I know 103rd was involved with 74th getting some flyers because we got some 6000s back in return before the 2010 cuts. Were the signs on 1249, 6518 and 6515 experiments? I remember there being differences with 1249's font and the different colors on the mentioned Novas. Can't remember when exactly the digital side screens on select K buses got phased out either. Now flyers at that garage at least is a thing of the past lol. Quote
