Is Chicago getting rid of its 6500s???

looks that way fg already has 7 buses from Chicago. I doubt the #6400's are coming over but maybe a select few will. Those Chicago novas have had a good rest only being 1/4 of that garages fleet. This makes them better maintained. The question is if this keeps up Chicago will be mostly #1000. You don't think it's possible 77th could go all #7900? Doing that to fg seems like a waste if they are having security issues out south.

Essentially then, all but 50 would be there. I don't think that would go over well.

I honestly think (like said before) 7900 are probably just going through incubation period at 77th/South Shops. When they are done working things out, they will probably be sent out. I really don't think CTA will let those Novas continue with replacements on property.

77th go all 7900s? Are you kidding my friend? You'd have folks from more than just FG territory raising hell on that move even if the 1000s are getting rehabbed. This is not a small series coming in like with the 800s and 900s all going to Kedzie, the 5800s having all been at Chicago or the 5800s going to NP.

Yeah I know LOL!! But this is 77th we are talking about. We didn't think Fg would lose all it's #1000's either last year but damned if it didn't happen. Now it is starting to look like the final 250 novas will be at FG and they may not even get a rehab bus or new bus until we are at bus #8110. If 74th and C gets #1000's then why would you go there with #7900's?

So Garmon in your trek to South Shops did you see more FG novas there? There is one more possibility but it doesn't seem to make sense. I was noticing the #56 was beefed up friday, now it could be possible the 7 buses were for an expansion of #56 service, now with the California/Milwaukee closure. But then why random buses? That is possible, but me myself I'm leaning towards retirement as now there are 20 #7900's on CTA property and something has to drop off the roster and CTA fleets get very random and widespread when this happens, so the second choice does sound right.

Yeah I know this is 77th and it's been showing they got some kind of pull on fleet assignments with first not wanting 6400s any longer and purging them and then not wanting artics and then purging itself of those. But I don't think even it has enough pull to purge all 1000s there and suck up most of the 7900s that are on the way.

Makes sense to me. I couldn't get any Novas' bus numbers by the front of the shop because of the damn construction on the property. They had to put asphalt down in order to make the lot smoother and paint the yellow lines. The whole entire shop was shut down and no buses were allowed to be parked in the front (#7906, #7931, and #7955 can't be moved until the construction is complete (most likely before Monday morning)) and no NF's were being rehabbed and/or repaired. The rest of the buses are in the back yard except 77th's. By the way, #6716 is out of service (in the back yard).

Well buses are terrible on the nw side. I'm waiting for 35 minute service right now on #77. You know that's not the only time either. Last week there was no #90 for 50 minutes. I ended up walking about 3 miles no bus. And then they wonder why they have had 18 months of bus ridership decline straight!!

The fact is that the delays particularly on NW side are now getting abominable. Most is due to hopeless traffic congestion. Nobody can move because there are so many cars on the street. Belmont is awful, but so is Addison, Montrose, Lawrence, etc. NW side congestion is getting worse, not better.

Take 77 good guesses as to where they went.... <_<

LOL I didn't even glance at the 77th Buses in line. Thanks. And don't be too hard on 77th this time around. They did just give 31 artics a week ago though for very dumb reasons. If traffic was a detriment to artic use on the #79, 77th had other busy routes that could have made use of them and didn't suffer the traffic delays of 79th Street. Oh well, the #22 and #26 are benefiting from some extra artic use.

1594 did not moved to 77th because this morning I saw on #60 this morning.

That's what i was just going to say, i know #1595 was still at Kedzie cause I saw it. I don't know what to say about #1994. It is at 77th but not on the list. Unless it went back. I guess whoever saw #4193 at Kedzie wasn't dreaming after all!! :P

Well, the Novas at FG drama doesn't ends with the addition of more 6500s because now #6423 is on #56 after it just went to Chicago a month ago.

#1003 and #1004 are on #72 right now.

About #1721 being a loaner, that's really interesting because of the fact that it was on #65 a few days ago.

Each Nova @ FG is an ouch!!!

We'll see how long it sticks around. I remember back when they were doing #9800 retirements buses would just stick around a few days and they were scrapped. If fg makes the decision of what gets scrapped then it would have to beat out what it has and what's coming.

I don't think FG has the authority of who get scrapped and who stays.

you could say south shops makes that decision, as a bus sent there would not get repaired but what happens to running buses that just need to go?

Well you do have to think about that there's quite a few paperwork in order for buses to be retired. Think about the 4400s and 5300s scattered everywhere before they were done. It's a process that can last up too 2-3 years depending on the quantity of certain buses.

There's several factors that determine what buses are retired when by the CTA I'm sure:

  • Condition of vehicle(both body and mechanically)
  • Mileage(CTA may have a set amount of miles a bus must achieve before retirement is considered if bus is still operable)
  • Fleet Status: New/Rehabbed buses that are on property at other garages that can spare them could play a key role in what gets retired based on first two conditions of soon-to-be retired fleet vehicles.
  • Transfer of less-used vehicles: If there are vehicles at garages that can be sent to another garage for a like for like replacement(provided factor #3 is met). The vehicles that are the same make/model as those being replaced might have less mileage/be in better condition body/mechanical-wise than the vehicle it's replacing

Process will repeat until the particular fleet of vehicles slated for retirement is 100% replaced.

It appears 1594-1596 did NOT move K to 7. New sheet dated 9/4 still has them at Kedzie. 7915,7926,7934 added at 77th same date.
