Busjack
The real question is how Kedzie stores 290 buses, of which 71 are artics, giving an effective total of about 325 (counting an artic. as maybe 1.5 buses)?

Something does seem a little fishy with the fg and chicago totals as well. I think some of those optimas and maybe #6500 novas are gone. The only way to know for sure is a peek at the roster which I might not have for a week or so. I'm on vacation right now and not doing too much transitwise. Those two seem a bit high (I can't see FG sending out 40 Optimas), but there doesn't seem to be the storage crunch that the K numbers imply. Valid point but if the 290 total is accurate, it's not really storing all 290 at one time given it does have the 60 as a night car and it's got buses not getting back onto garage grounds until about 1 AM to almost 2 AM for late ending routes and buses leaving back out around 3 AM for all the routes that assigned that have first full trips beginning at 4 AM. Plus it's established a history of storing overflows outside the garage proper in its south lot. Though admittedly it wasn't doing so with just over 70 artics assigned. But so far we have no indication Kedzie gave up any buses outside of swapping artics for artics.

Busjack
Add 6876 to 74th. It's on the 9 Ashland this morning. I'm starting to see the same setup of "74th is going to be the last to get new buses" again. Especially if BusHunter's FG prediction pans out. BusHunter
I'm starting to see the same setup of "74th is going to be the last to get new buses" again. Especially if BusHunter's FG prediction pans out. Actually it appears the 3 nova garages with the biggest fleets are being transitioned to newer novas and the older stuff retired. I'd lay bets #6876-#6883 has retired some #6600's, the #6500's to FG have retired a few in that block and the #4300's have taken away about 20 novas at 77th as well. The Optimas appear to be doing the same, just like wordguy said. Looks like half the 103rd Optimas came to Fg retiring some other optimas that were already there and at the same time some in the transferred series was retired also. So a rational assumption would be 14 novas at Fg retired, 20 at 77th, 7 at 74th and maybe about 8 optimas retired from FG/103rd.
jajuan
77th does still have 6875 as it's currently on the 8. So the cutoff of Nova shifts to 74th is confirmed to be at this point.

Busjack
On the CTA bus tracker today, #3 King Drive route have run all 4300-Series new flyer buses today. When I've seen the bus tracker, I notice that they don't run the Nova and the 1000-Series new flyers buses on a Saturday. That's weird. According to the July Ridership Report, King Dr. still has almost 17,000 boardings on Saturday. 79th has about 19,000. So, if the point is to use newer buses, those two seem to qualify. By comparison, 147 has about 12,300, 146, 13,700. The two Saturday routes that really could use them are 9 (23,800) and 49 (18,500), but that gets back to 74th not being equipped to run artics. Basically, it doesn't appear that CTA has gotten its head around its announcements that it intended to replace 100 Novas with the 100 NF artics, nor what would it do with the 50-150 artics in the yet not awarded part of the recent procurement. Also, it has implied that the artics are for decrowding, but hasn't really indicated if some service will be reduced as a result of putting more seats on the line. Maybe the 9 could be shared until 74th gets artics? I know 74th is the closest but maybe both K and NP could both chip in with their extra artics. 49 is already shared with NP so its just.a matter of assigning them to that route. jajuan
On the CTA bus tracker today, #3 King Drive route have run all 4300-Series and few 1000-Series new flyer buses today. When I've seen the bus tracker, I notice that they don't run the Nova buses on a Saturday. That's weird. 4, 8 and some other routes out of 77th did use Novas so it was pretty much unique to the 3. As for the 9, I think it should be remembered that the 9 is a 24 hr route compared to the 3 operating between approximately 5:30 AM and midnight on a Saturday, and it covers a lot more ground than the 3. I use the 9 on weekends and I can tell you that those approximate 23,000 Saturday boardings are spread out enough in addition to a lot of them being relatively short rides compared to weekday rides, that buses on that route are not jammed to the gills with standees being a rare sight on either weekend day. I've only ever seen a lot of standees on the 9 during a Saturday when something was going on at the United Center or if Union Park at Ashland/Lake has some big event like the music events that were there this past summer and the Universoul Circus last month. It's a similar situation for the 49 minus the Union Park detail.
