andrethebusman Posted April 12, 2014 Author Report Share Posted April 12, 2014 This is what I can decipher as far as what CFD did with the three 5800's. 5858 is FDS133, I assume this is the 8-8-11 located at Fillmore & California. There is another one, FDS number unknown, located at Woodlawn & 55th as 8-8-12. The third is assigned to the Fire Academy as 2-9-1, replacing the 5307 that was assigned to 2-9-1. If anybody sees any of these buses, try to get the FDS number (6 digits in about 2-inch high numbers on front and rear) so I can get my roster straightened out! These buses were powered with Cummins engines as well(more of a Nova Bus idle, smaller tailpipe w/ a cover similar to the 6000-Series Flxibles). I don't recall 5800 and 5801, but I'm not going to say they were or weren't, as I always remember them having the Detroit Series-50. That's ludicrous! If they can peddle a DOA Flx for $4100, $3000 should be nothing. They just don't want to deal with it for some other reason. They just don't want to deal with it for some other reason. It's a 20 year old bus, and a bill of $3,000 to get it repaired sounds like something major mechanically is bad on the bus like the tranny. These buses also had a habit of being squealers(drive belts, perhaps?). The cost of the repair alone is probably more than the bus is worth now(20 years old w/ probably close to or over 1,000,000 miles on it) But look at it this way, andre.... you have in the next 1 & 1/2 to 2 years 484 Nova LFS buses retiring. No doubt some will have a second, non-revenue life doing various things(6402 and 6404 are Work Buses now, 6400 is slated to go to Olive Harvey College), perhaps the CFD will buy or receive free of charge a few Novas to be CFD buses. I used google maps to find it and it's just a little north on Throop off of North Ave., but posted right in front in a sign that says "No Tresspassing. Violators will be prosecuted." and right next to that is a shed which no doubt houses caretakers/guards. I see a lot of spare engines and tower ladder trucks in the lot along with two all white Flxible Metro(6000's) and an all white TMC RTS(stock footage from last year I bet). As far as spare engines/tower ladders, this is what I see in the stock footage: E270(Ladder Truck) Engine Co. 122(Active Fire Engine?) Tower Ladder 61(Active Fire Engine?) E252(this spare unit is still in use. I've seen it in the past subbing for Tower Ladder 21) E248(Tower Ladder Truck) E250(I've seen this spare unit once subbing for Tower Ladder 21. I think both E252 and E250 are 1985 Emergency One Tower Ladders. E248 may be as well) D528(Engine Co. Truck) D547(Engine Co. Truck) Engine Co. 49 E238(Ladder Truck) E269(Ladder Truck) Anyone have info on the other units mentioned here? E270, D528, D547, E238 and E269? Year of build, Manufacturer and Model? I jokingly considered buying a used bus for when me and my family go on vacation. Just have our baggage stowed in the raised portion in the rear and everyone riding comfortably towards the front! When Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport completes their airport train to the rental car center they’re going to phase out their shuttle buses, which would work good for us because they have luggage racks. We leased a 2017 Toyota Highlander that could seat 8, but with 5 of us plus all of our luggage it was a tight squeeze, and the Highlander is not a small car by any means. Even when it was just me my dad and step mom traveling to LA and Phoenix it was like playing Tetris trying to get all the bags in (though we had my brother pick us up to avoid paying for airport parking).
