Looks like they are just about done with these LED interior light installations on #5000's. There's only 22 cars left on my list that needs to get done they are #5165-66, #5201-02, #5241-44, #5255-56, #5309-10, #5339-40, #5345-50, #5363-64 and those can probably be held in now, so I don't expect to see the older lighting anymore on in service trains.

5219-5220 were back on the Red Line today. This past weekend, they spent both days on the Yellow Line and 5449-5450 and 5451-5452 were in various spots in Howard yard. I saw them pull into the platform on track 1, then back into the yard. That's probably how this consist made its way to the Purple Line on Monday.

This is the #2400's 8 car drag (funeral train)

Why were those trains going past Fullerton, where'd they come from?

Also is having the red and white lights both on in the front some special signal? I see that every now and then.

Probably from the Midway Yard, where the 2400's are now stored at. 2552 looked bad as it was all tagged on the side

@ BusHunter: I'm trying to go over your video of the last two cars over and over to see if I can make out the numbers... best I can tell is they are 24XX-24XX... I want to say there is a "3" in there after the "4", but I don't know if it's the third number or the fourth.

The red and white lights running together is because that train is on ATC bypass. The #2400's are most likely bypassing because they are old and most likely the maintenance is slipping due to them being retired soon. If you look at the grab bar on the ends of the cars on an in service train they will usually put an orange or red colored tag on any cars in which the ATC doesn't work. This is called red tagging. Usually those cars will then be ran in the belly of the train as the ATC is not working.

One I remember seeing was #2561-62 and #2551-52 we can all see. #2443-44 looks like another one. That all I can make out. My question is where has #2551-52 been? It should have been long gone by now. I haven't seen that since the Howard yard graffiti in Feb. That's where it was vandalized. The car never ran in service again.

Sign on the side almost looks Orange...startled me for a second :P. "What? The orange line doesn't get these yet!"

At first glance I thought it was yellow, so I had to open up the image to make sure I wasn't seeing a messed up 5000 train. Second glance I thought it was yellow or brown. Those crazy thumbnails...

The question undoubtedly is that at that distance, the red (background) and white (letters) blend together, plus whatever was the ambient lighting.

I wouldn't think that one of my shots was going to get that much of attention. However, two factors might indicate why it look orangish: 1. The light at the station and 2. The angle of the shot.

I was on a Blue Line today with the red lights up front with the headlights and class lights. It was an in-service train and I could hear the ATC so it wasn't bypassed. Is there another reason they have both sets of lights like that? Here's some pictures:

The red light by the cab door was also lit

They forgot to turn them off? Lol!! That's what was explained to me is why that is like that cause I asked someone in rail operations myself.

LOL that's funny. I figured it would be linked to the active cab direction selector (Forward means headlights on front and Tail-lights on back, Backward is vise-verse). Maybe the old ones were manual.

edit: or maybe it is and there were two active cabs xD
