So I think it's finally time I made a separate topic in regards to the #1000s retirements process as it seems to be slowly underway. I've already compiled a list of what's on the chopping block based on what I've seen. So far my count has surpassed 53 which does include various buses with wreck/fire damage. The second list consists of buses recently removed from service for more than several months and did return for a short time but later went back OOS.

I've made a secondary list of buses that have been OOS in the last several weeks or they have broken trackers on them. They're not retired by any means. However, they're OOS. I have seen #1160, #1179, #1787 receiving maintenance in the last several days so that's a positive sign. I did notice #1293 and #1338  were moved to boneyard to accommodate space so I'm not sure how major there issues are. If anyone has seen any of these buses in service feel free to let me know.  I guess making separate topics was a no go for the admins, thanks the for no warning heads up by the way.....

A bus is not "retired" until an "Authorization for Retirement" is processed. This can take years these days. Some of the 6000 Flxibles at SS have been there since before 2009 (15 years), were AFR's about 2019, still there with no indication they are leaving any time soon. Nothing was scrapped 2022. CTA has become truly a packrat. As bad as New York Transit circa 1982-83 when they had 1500 buses awaiting scrap sale, but were holding out for better prices. Finally sold the whole bunch for $20 a piece after neighbors started complaining about derelict buses in the streets around every garage.

Time will, something will have to get moved eventually from back there.

About 1/3 of 103rd’s flyers have not run since before noon on July 1st, and only 1179 has showed up on a P route, which led it to south shops. Are any of those 103rd flyers that haven’t run since last week anywhere at south shops?

I haven't seen to many of them at SS other than #1092 and #1178. The rest might be at 103rd still and just haven't run for a multitude of reasons. One thing you have to remember that 103rd has a surplus of buses right now. They can afford to run newer equipment and have a larger spare ratio of elderly buses. Sorta similar to what FG did with there remaining #6800s.

Seemingly, 1144 is now at North Park. Here it is on N. Dearborn St. on route #36 Broadway. Notice it still has its '3' decal. 36broadway-027(1144).jpg.7ad2575cb16fd71b90337231dc35fc32.jpg
