Railwaymodeler
6607 now at North Division. Text message from a driver at the garage this morning told me that 2429 is in the back lot, and being prepared to be sent away. I feel like crying. No more 2300s at North, now the first of the 2400s are going.
Busjack
... I feel like crying. No more 2300s at North, now the first of the 2400s are going. The way it looks at this point (since it appears that the new ones are going to West, and West has already taken care of S's and NS's needs) is that the only place left to clear out over FTA service life buses is N. Railwaymodeler
The 2400s are at the end of their FTA life as of 2013. The 40' buses (Both North ones are from 1998) and 2423, also from '98, can be retired right now. FTA is 13 years (Or was it 14? I can never get this right!), so the 24s will be gone soon anyway. 6600s coming here. God, I hate those things. No matter the retarder setting, they are very rough riding, to the point I worry that my back problem will get worse. All it takes is the right impact, and I end up unable to move and needing paramedics. Then there's the issue of the rear door. In the time between the door handle opening it, and the door opening, usually 5-8 seconds, invariably, someone goes ballistic on the driver, up to and including making violent threats of "open this door or I'll beat the crap out of you" (Only with more foul language). Of course, I would take a GM Fishbowl any day over any NABI or anything else Pace has, and as we know, that's not going to happen.

The Pace budget says 1999 (page 60) which is correct to my knowledge. The FTA life is 12 years,* so the 2400s reached it in 2011, meaning that the scrapping of half of South's 2400s was authorized when that happened in the past two years. *FTA Grant Management Circular says: Large, heavy-duty transit buses (approximately 35'-40', and articulated buses): at least 12 years of service or an accumulation of at least 500,000 miles. Presumably, the South ones got to 500,000 much quicker than the North ones did.
Railwaymodeler
The info plates on the partition behind the driver says 1999 for buses 2424 and up. 2423 is 1998, as are, I believe, 2401 and 2421. 2423 was a demonstrator, I believe, so I imagine the 40' buses (Up to 2422), were built in 1998, as 2423, and all other 35' NABIs in 1999. Delivery of all could have been in 1999, or the 40' buses built late 1998, maybe December. The plate only shows the year. If all delivered in 1999, and the law stipulates 12 years of service, then regardless of build year, the 12 years starts when delivered? I'm sure you can write the FTA for a legal opinion, not that it matters. The only thing I figure is that all of them were in service by 2000, when the budget says, and again I saw, the 6000s go into service. So, any way you count it, they have been in service for at least 12 years.
Railwaymodeler
Doesn't really matter, except for my own curiousity. That plus perhaps a fantasy situation where Pace finds all its NABIs ruled "deathtraps" by a judge, and the stipulations for replacements rules out everything but GM buses, which end up being bought used with FTA money. Of course, Pace finds out the judge was bribed by transit fans, but the FTA still rules "Keep 'em 12 years", and the NABIs are already melted down in to something actually useful. (My railroad fantasies are even better!)

Railwaymodeler
Except for the GMC part. I can wish and dream of course. Sort of like using the old Northwestern heavyweight cars on the UP-North (The short types that Varney made card and wood models of in the 1940s). Perhaps the old Heritage line could use Capone cars too! Dr. Seuss had the book "If I ran the Circus". My version might be "If I ran the RTA". Heck, then I could call you incompetent and impotent. Unlike the current one, I don't think you'd like that.

Busjack
Apparently, it is 6236, as evidenced by WebBotch. There is essentially a 6236-6237 hole, in that North Shore has had 6238-6240 for quite a while now [i would guess 5 years], and recently got 6231 and 6233-6235, and South has had 6232 for a bit before it got 6268-6278 [which would seem to take care of the 11 2400s South had in March 2012 that it has since retired]. In that you said North needed some 40 footers, you might get a few 6220s or 6241s. 2401 and 2421 still seemed on Webwatch in the past few days, but I'll bet not for long.
