My class had 25 people in it. That’s the only way that can make up for the retirements terminations and quitting

My class back in 2019 had about 27 but only ended up with 23 showing up and 17 lasting past line instruction.  The company is hiring as much as they can but there screening process is what really kills them the most in my opinion. A lot of candidates aren't use to this kind of Military environment and slowly crack under the pressure or from just being fed up with how things are ran inside the company. Getting new operators to stay is what really hurting the company right now.

Why is getting hired for the cta feel like being hired for the military? Sounds weird to me

When I say "Military Environment'' I'm referring to knowing the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures),24 hour Military time clock we use, expected code of conduct and overall dealing with the public because some areas feel like warzones while others are just a walk in the park. We're defenseless out there and were just trained to not fight back unless provoked. The authority wants us to have the most discipline when operating a bus on the wicked streets of Chicago and sometimes as we've seen in the past operators have lost there cool Ala "The Body slam heard around the world." and "The 43rd street guns drawn at passengers incident."

Yeah drivings no walk in the park. Add to that corrupt politics having their say in what goes down in the agency, balancing a budget by giving the operators an unforgiving run time to squeeze cycle times and not knowing who's crazy out here in public is mentally taxing.

hello.

i noticed that most cta buses have LED screens , but i saw on the 86 route a few times a bus with green analog text for the destination route. these busses looked very old and i believe i saw them usually with their destination signs broken. i saw these busses mostly on the 86 last year but they were very rare to find, i also saw one on harlem and maybe addison? any info on what model this bus is and it’s history is appreciated thanks.

Those are 2001 Nova LFS buses which have retired been retired in March of last year (with the exception of a few running down south and one up north in August but those are 100% retired now). Those buses reached 20 years old and they would be 21 if they still ran today. I miss seeing them :( Those are flip-dot signs which flip when the route it's on uses multiple frames for it's destination.image.thumb.png.357c34cac42741823edc47018a8038e4.png

Work bus on 63rd & king I guess it maybe 6783

Well, well, well… Look who decides to pop out of hiding??? and yes that is actually former #6783 because it is the only one out of two work Novas that is still on CTA probably, former #6712 is the all naked Nova with no paint job compared to #6783. It still has the black paint near the windows tho.
