#53 Pulaski Extension

The legends on the 53 notice that running ahead is allowed without permission on outer portions of the route during non-Owl hours leads me to ask: What is the policy on this? Are there portions of routes out of 77th where drivers otherwise would have permission to run ahead? Would this anger potential passengers who are at the bus  stop on time but are missed, are they expected to use the tracker, or doesn't it make a difference because the timepoints are too spread out?

I've seen these notes on #2 north of Balbo, I think #3 has it north of Roosevelt, #87 west of western. 103rd has it on J14 once it finishes it's express zone along with #146 out of NP. I gotta look through IRM to find the rest. J14 and 146 make sense due to them being pick up on one end and drop off on the other type of routes.

All the buses here over on 89th & Woodlawn

Wonder does it still have its original amenities like the plastic seats in the back and steel boxy seats up front. I know the (1000) number is still inside over the next stop request sign while the fleet has the numbers under it. im pretty sure it still has its original log in screen on the wall in front over the driver seats where sometimes drivers used to reach to stand up to access the screen. Those have been relocated during the rehabs and the original spot is patched up. Second picture specifically.

The bus doesn’t have its original license plates from 20 years ago however it is this same unit despite falsely reports of it being returned to new flyer or replaced with #1005

In simple terms, were allowed to run ahead at the scheduled time on our run paddles at that particular time point. So for example. On Halsted at Belmont were allowed to run early at the scheduled time point indicated for us and also at 74th Street. I believe certain routes have this implemented into the running time on our paddles system wide. Now to answer your second question about the potential effects on passengers this is where frequency comes in based on overall demand throughout the course of the day. Which is why the control center has been cracking down so much on operators maintaining schedules properly no matter what time of day it is. It's gotten to the point where they're making sure we pull in to the garage at the scheduled time to make sure that the last runs of the evening aren't running ahead of schedule before pulling in. We're pretty much back to pre pandemic guidelines as far as enforcement and tolerance for transit operations. The CTA cut everyone some slack during the pandemic.

Here's some examples shown below from 77th. Notice how only certain routes have early time allowance while others don't.

The original 1000 in the photograph had chassis number 28549 and was returned to New Flyer. The first 20 delivered (1001-1020) had chassis numbers 29081-29100. The current 1000 has chassis number 31602 which puts its delivery between 1429 (30731) and 1430 (31793) - 2nd 1000, 1429, 1430 chassis numbers  from CTA official lists.

Ahhhh ok, looks like another prototype was made and delivered. It looks very familiar in @Shannon tahoeppv’s video

Bus 1967 still has an older "No smoking, littering, eating or radio playing" sticker
it also has the new Ventra reader, but it's not yet active.PXL_20250707_203038560.thumb.jpg.4b88059619b390420450896f4fb1924e.jpg

What do the new Ventra readers look like? Do you know when they are supposed to roll out system wide?
