I'd argue safety in case of missing late buses. You can program the work paddles backwards, if that's the intent (have any PM runs that end later start before then, anything after 2000 hours requires probably a FT driver)

Looking at the schedule pulldown, the only K Owl run is 60-Blue Island/26. I suppose the can schedule around that, but any driver would still need a break.

Once the Red line gets extended i'm sure the X4 will start running out of 115th.

The amount of people not wanting to transfer to the 115 is the main reason believe it or not. They want a long single seat ride to 115th believe it or not and having worked the X4 during the mornings and so many passengers ask me if I'm going to 115th and all I can do is stare in amazement. 😅

I'm surprised that the 4 or X4 isn't being shared with 3 for those trips to 95th and 115th. I'm sure 3 could help out nicely.

😎😎😂😂

I have my own guesses and speculations, but I'd love to look at the stop-level data to see what's pushing the 4 for full-time service to 115th. I was curious when it started and more curious now. Anecdotally, I know my mother and grandmother use it to get to the 111A, but I'd love to know the other use cases for it.

Part of it might be them planning ahead for the inevitable move of 4 to 103rd. When the red line gets extended relieving the 29 via 106 won't be an option anymore so it's probably gonna go back to 77th and the 4 is the only thing at 7 that goes far south enough to get relieved at 103rd when they have to trade something in return. 3 might get an extension to 111th when 111 gets realigned

By then, the current 120 year old 77 garage won't be there.

Wait it's getting replaced soon? Cause the red line extension opens in 2029 I thought

2030, but by then electrification should be taking place, so any speculation about  what garage would have what is futile. Sort of like predicting in 1944 what barn will have what streetcar route, when there was already talk of bustitution. If 103rd is high priority to go electric, that's what's going to determine what routes it gets.

Looking at all these potential service changes, and I’m happy to see the majority of them, but dang, we still can’t get the 11 back to Fullerton or North?

Nope.   It was tried and apparently failed.  Remember Elston and Clybourn also lost their route years ago.  Milwaukee and South Chicago are the only two true diagonal streets with CTA bus service and its a miracle the 30 still operates on South Chicago.  I suppose I need to count South Shore Drive as a diagonal but it's a lakefront route and doesn't cut through the city like the other two.

The last time it was given a pilot to extend as far as Fullerton, it wasn’t getting enough ridership to justify making it permanent, with CTA stating the Brown Line was a simple alternative. I feel the hours of operation was a factor too. It only operated in weekdays from 10am to 7pm, maybe if it started earlier…

The X3, X80 & dare I say it X21 would have a better chance at coming back before the 11 gets an extension...... 😅 The problem I have with the 11 is the amount of traffic/ foot traffic it has south of Lawrence on certain days. It may seem like a good idea to extend it further south to Fullerton but again that traffic near Halsted is hell at times. Business does seem to be booming along that corridor versus several years ago so I'll give you that extended olive branch. I do believe that with proper P/R any route can make a comeback outside of data analysis and environmental studies. 😅  We're in the tech age so I'm pretty sure if CTA spent more time and effort on getting the word out to the general public via social media outlets along with the news outlets anything is possible. In order to get people to care about service they have to have it engrained into there minds that it will reliable, easy to navigate and safe.

Archer as well. I do "remember" Elston & Clybourn having bus service, but those might've been gone before I was alive. Agreed on the 30 lol, although weekend service did get extended to 79th St (although tbf, that's actually the populated portion of So. Chicago lol)

10a-7p are not serious hours for a bus route, it misses the entire am peak. They tried doing the same thing to the 31 before receiving pushback. If they did it again but from 6a or even 7a, and it still failed, I'd acquiesce.

Not the X21 😂

Agreed on your proper P/R point. I have too many firsthand examples of changes we've made to our infrastructure projects that might not necessarily live up to our safety guidelines b/c the community rallied behind it (hint: when parking needs meet bike lane needs)

I'd rather support the 41 coming back, despite the service hours of the 11 being garbage. That being said:

The problem with the 11 and the 41 is the need for infrastructure that prevents cars (and buses) from moving faster. I feel that bus speeds (even off-peak) won't justify a return for any diagonal routes because walking might be a priority. The partnership with Hayden, along with enforcement powers, might help the red lanes (as a whole), but doesn't solve our initial problem with the diagonal streets.

Elston actually isn't that hard to navigate (compared, say, to Lincoln or Clark), but now with all the big box stores on it, is about as pedestrian friendly as Golf Road in Schaumburg (ha ha).
