More Bus Moves

Yesterday, while i was at 95th/Dan Ryan i saw a nova heading southbound on the dan ryan expressway

Nothing too unusual. 77th usually sends its buses down the Dan Ryan for their trips on the 3 and 4. Also, 77th has routes that are pretty far south such as the 30 and 71 so it may have been on its way for those trips as well.

actually the nova went past the 95th exit, it stayed on the dan ryan which indicated it was going to 103

RJL has a valid point along with the fact that 77th has been loaning buses to 103rd here and there throughout the spring and summer. So cta5658 could have been seeing the Nova head past 95th for either of those two reasons, though the north terminal of the 8A is right at the 77th garage negating a need to deadhead on the Ryan for that purpose unless the first southbound trips wouldn't make it to 119th in enough time to start those early northbound trips. So actually Sam and cta5658, both of you are right on south side Novas deadheading on the Ryan.

Maybe Kedzie is short on bus because I saw Forest Glen bus #6784 on #62 Archer out of Kedzie Garage today.

#6784 is still on the #62 as of this afternoon. (Though it is unclear whether that bus had a Kedzie or a 74th run number since both garages operate the #62 day and evening hours on weekdays.)

Spotted: 103rd's NF 4070 on #124.

That sighting along with 4096 are apparently part of extra service that CTA has in effect from 9:30am-10:30pm on the 124 through Sunday for the Taste of Tall Ships event currently going on this weekend at Navy Pier. There's a service bulletin on the CTA website under the weekend service change section for Aug. 12-15 though the extra service actually started on the 11th. They also have extra service on the 29 north of Roosevelt and on the 65 Grand east of the Grand Avenue Blue Line station during the same hours through Sunday for the very same event. So it might be possible that you or someone else will see buses from garages different than the assigned garages for both of those routes as well.

This afternoon (Saturday August 20), FG bus #6723 is on NP's #22 Clark route. The sighting of a Nova - even one from another garage - is unusual given that most runs of that route on weekends use 4000-series NF artics.

Probably because of the air and water show. The 151 is one of the main routes serving that area so they most be concentrating must of the artic fleet over there. Even routes 145, 146 and 147 are showing more 1000's series buses.

Today was interesting. I board a packed Irving Park bus #6585 this evening. A man and woman board with a baby stroller with a baby roughly 2-4 months old sleeping inside. With no place to put the stroller, all the man and woman could do was sit behind the driver with a part of the stroller beyond the yellow line on the wheelchair ramp(Pic #1. Taken after the man and woman left the bus. Just taken to show about where the stroller was). A few stops later, I just about get the bench seat by the right wheelwell cleared so they may move their stroller there, when the rudest Senior Citizen gets on board, bumps the stroller with her shopping cart(thus waking the sleeping baby), berates the Father for having the stroller there, then proceedes to sit in the once empty bench seat(Pic #2, taken after additional people sit there with her. She's the one with the small cart), eliminating my chances of having them move the stroller off to the side. They're forced to sit there as the baby continues to cry and scream while the Father tries to calm him/her down. When he got ready to leave, I apologized for her rudeness as he left the bus. Sometimes, I think the Senior Citizens that are mobile enough like she was should be a little more considerate and give up their seat for strollers with young babies in them. She clearly was moving well enough and could've stood like me and many others on the bus had to.

Oh, the pleasures of riding/driving public transportation. So let me get this straight, you would rather have a senior stand and have a baby stroller take his/her spot with someone most likely half to 1/4 there age. Remember priority seating is reserved for seniors and people with disabilities. Really what would have been nice would've been for a younger person to give there seat to the senior. In fact some drivers will request this is done before they proceed. That's good policy, wouldn't want any falls on board. B)
