More Bus Moves

Yeah I also found the signs for #147 Devon short trippers weird in that same respect. I know if I find the 'Devon" destination hard to read from a distance sometimes even with my glasses, other folks find them hard to see too. You'd think they'd program the signs to show something similar to what NB 136 buses display so that they're easier to see at a distance.

Indeed but I'm really not sure how the #136 sign looks like now because I rarely see that route. I remembered the NABIs and the 4000s NFs had a crapped up glitch on #146 (southbound) because every time it show the destination (Museum Campus (it was a longer display because it took up two rows)) it lasted about 1/2 second before switching back to "146 Inner Dr/Mich Exp".

They are all Luminator signs and it depends on what was programmed into them. The bus assembler doesn't have anything to do with what CTA programs into them.

Luminator and Twinvision used to have descriptions of the programming software on their sites, but I didn't see it. Twinvision's was called ELYSE. But the issue is no different than if I program small font here, it is going to be smaller on your computer, too.

The only base line is that the fonts have to be ADA compliant. Apparently two lines on a sign is.

I had a feeling that you were going to mention ELYSE because I was researching that online earlier. The "small font here" you had inputed is also small of my iPhone (Safari).

And the fact that the 6000s' signs operates faster that the Novas'. Now look at the aftermath of the Novas' signs 6708-lower. Some aren't readable and some have their side signs stuck on just the route number and name i.e. 20 Madison but it doesn't change to the destination that the route is going. Even their back signs either doesn't show the route number or show some weird crap like the shot of #6487's back sign showing "79 MAX"!

I remember having nova #6639 and the back sign said junk

The signs on the later 6400's are actually TwinVision amber LED signs.

The context of the pronoun was NABI and later.

I remember when I was at north park garage and I was working #50 Damen my relief pulled u with Nova #6696 It was great driving a nova on Damen out of north park

Which clarified something in the picture. I didn't think it looked like Western, and there was another report of a street festival that closed Milwaukee between Damen and Western.

Milwaukee was blocked between Paulina and Damen/North Avenue. That bus was #56 detouring (Milwakee to Division to Damen and back to Milwaukee).

More Novas at 103rd this morning it was 3total 6671 I can't remember the 2nd one but the 3rd one was 6689 which is what I had (YEAH BOY!!!) On the 29 this morning but stopped on me at Balbo heading northbound lol. So I had to bring it back to the garage which was cool cause I got to drive it on the expressway as well. The parking break light came on and prevented me from operating in service so I had to hit the switch in order to move. Overall great 1sthalf though lol.

That's not new. I would still look for 6876-6883 to make their way to FG in the future and most likely finish their service life there.

Only a possibly if 74th gets 7900s before FG in the progression of next garages after 77th getting them. And of course we'll have to wait and see how that unfolds.

Or just six 1000s from another garage, or maybe nothing at all. It's just six buses but as you say, we can only wait and see what happens...

That really does makes a lot of sense. Did you think it was a bad idea that Cta created this route for this plant?

They had a good idea on paper, but apparently nobody realized how the auto industry really worked. Also, realize the idea was not to serve Ford itself, which probably hadn't generated any transit riding since the 1960's when the 27 still went there as Ford employees are almost exclusively suburbanites, are very well paid, and almost 100% would have Ford cars. The idea was the employees of the supplier companies clustered east of Torrence north of Hegewisch, whose work force is city, paid little more than minimum wage, and certainly many are barely able to afford a car. In theory they would have used transit, but in practical terms with ever-changing work schedules, a car is a basic necessity for them.

Something caught my eye about #6518 servicing #80 yesterday afternoon. The bus has an LED display in the front rather than the backlit flip dot, but the LED's where really bright, like a white LED. If so, when did this happen, and did this bus receive a rehab for it(as far as I knew, the LED retrofitted Novas got amber LED's)?

Not really sure about that number since it was hours ago and I had lots to do last night... it might've been 6517 or 6518. It was one of them, however. I remember that 6515 had a LED and this bus was in the 65-teens and was past 6515 numerically.

6518 has an experimental white LED front and side sign. Has had it for a couple of years at least. Speaking of odd signs, 1249 has had a non-standard LED in it for a couple of years too. Many readings look very different than normal.

But if they were so concerned with numerical integrity as this particular move you've brought up more times than we can count suggests, they would have done so by now in light of the fact they had the chance when they shifted all the other 6800s that had been at 77th back to FG or even more recently when they reassigned a similar number of 6690s from FG to 74th. And I was responding to your full post, the move AND staying at FG until retirement together and now you're trying to shift your argument some by cherrypicking your own words. <_<

Actually in both cases, those signs have been the case since both buses' early days as 77th assigned buses (in the case of 1249 that would be since the years of its first assignment as a 77th bus before it had several garage homes before making it back to 77th earlier this year).

That might be the bus with the Hannover sign I once took a picture of down at the 95/Dan Ryan L station. Unfortunately, that photo disappeared when my last laptop crashed.
