How come 6 is usually one of the last garages to get newer buses

I might have mentioned it before, but this was the case when 69th/74th was out of sync with other garages. Recent history goes to when 74 opened in 1995, and it got 110 6000s as well as had some 4000s and got some 4400s from NP (which got an equivalent amount of 5800s). I mentioned how K got the shaft when its 6000s were sent to FG for its 5500s. This was finally rectified when K got 1110-1219. 74th still had its 6000s, so there wasn't an impetus to replace them with 1000s, except for 30 buses--and @artthouwill: the 5300s were not 1993, but 1991), especially when 103rd"s and NP's fleets were falling apart so quickly that there were two odd/even splits.

74 finally got back into sync when Archer closed and 74th and F got 6400s from there. As I noted earlier today, 6400s were replaced by 7900s, including at 74th.

How come 6 is usually one of the last garages to get newer buses when it has the longest bus routes such as the 9, X9, 49, X49, 62 and 94. If the 1000s and 7900s at 7 are high in mileage where do the 1000s and 7900s at 6 stand in mileage? NP does help save 6 on the 49 and X49 but those other routes are pretty long. With the exception of FG getting the first 8350s, I thought they were going to be assigned based on which garage has the highest mileage routes.

Well if you want to get technical about it post-2008 when they got stuck with almost the entire fleet of #6000s to maintain, 74th was the 2nd garage to receive brand new buses in regards to the #8000s coming there after 77th got there #7900s but since then it has become the wild wild west around the entire system in regards to who gets what based off of age, mileage or this case "Rust". If 74th had the same issues K,NP and C were having with there 3/4 option #1000s I'm pretty sure they would of received  something.

As I recently mentioned, FG got about half of the 6000s as a result of the preheater swap. It was about half and half between FG and 74th until Archer closed and both got its 6400s.

Before any gets excited, it's likely just for storage reasons. 4370 hasn't been in service since 7/5/24 when it was on the 147, and 4064 was last in service earlier this month on 9/18/24 as a 156. In light of FG already having been reported as the temporary stopping ground for 8350s meant for other garages due to space shortages at 77th/South Shops, it makes sense that it's getting used as temporary space for buses awaiting the heavy duty maintenance.

4370 and 4064 were used for something that has to due with the farebox installation at F……i seen 4370 the day before 4064 was spotted.

I guess we have to wait for them to appear somewhere.   If they wind up st SS, we'll know they were temporarily stored at FG until space became available.   If we see them in service soon, then we will have to see if they have the new fareboxes.  There's even a chance that both options could be true.

All buses at north park, Kedzie, and Chicago garage should have new fareboxes by now (at least the ones that were in service this week). Buses that just returned from overhauls or long term repairs at SS which include 4134, 4373, 4344, 4357, and 4365 got their new fareboxes just as they returned to service.

4359 has not been tracking since it was released to service overhauled. That has a new farebox when I saw it in August.

is 4202 Kedzie or north park if anyone knows? I saw that under repairs at SS a few weeks ago so maybe it’s in service again with a broken tracker?

I have feeling the articulated buses that have been out of service at south shops for some time are showing up at Forest Glen for the new farebox installation

it’s been said previously what the status is for the artics showing up at the glen. #4196 already has a new box but they aren’t here for “installation” they get that done at their perspective garage.

Okay.   Why would 4196 or any artic be at FG?
