Well I see a bit of news that wasn't reported before. 62 will won't be all Kedzie. From this 74th and 77th also do some trips. Quite a number of 103rd's current routes gets shared to some degree and 103rd in turn will do some of what's now 103rd territory.

I guess whoever predicted 35, 39, and 43 reliefs via the Red Line was right.

Also, I don't see any 170s, so I assume 103, but since 39 and 43 were run with Optimas, I guess we'll have to see what happens.

Kevin updated the garage list. 103rd gets Optimas again so apparently that garage will get the 170s. Also in addition to what was reported about NP and Chicago getting Novas, 74th also gets them as well. So looks like the sightings of Novas at 74th earlier in the week was a prelude to it getting them. We'll have to wait at least until tomorrow for route assignments though due to the pending service changes. Kevin has a message under the respective garage links stating the rute assignments and run numbers are removed for that reason. Archer is listed as inactive with the Flxs there to reflect them being stored there. The Flxs are also listed as inactive rather than retired due to the slim chance the service cuts are put on hold and/or reversed. From the news reports if a deal somehow were reached by whatever miracle, it would take a week and half to two weeks to put everything back as it was.

Would it be possible to show the route assignments from all garages? I hope this won't create shortages on Chicago and Forest Glen routes.

With some of these routes, one wonders what savings comes out of closing Archer (other than staffing). The downtown and North Lake Shore expresses and Sheridan are justified in that you can use those buses before deadheading back to garage, but routes like Archer makes no sense.

I guess it depends how many runs each involves.

Looking at BusTracker this morning, the only assignments that look that different are the former Archer routes, but they don't seem too split up. If 1000s weren't moved that much overnight, 49 looks like pretty much all 74th's, except for 6689 (NP according to RJL's list). I guess we will have to wait for Monday to get the true picture.

The other big difference is that there seem to be a lot of artics on routes such as 6, 22 and 151 for a Sunday.

Also, for this Sunday, 12 and 82 (both still Kedzie routes) are all artics as well.

North Av inherited the 151-work from Keeler, which inherited it from CMC days. Back then, CMC was big on the kind of deadheading and route interlining that is coming back now. For instance, going back to the 1950's there were four Addison trips that ended downtown at Adams/State, deadheaded north to Sheridan/Belmont, worked back as 151's to Adams/State (later Adams/Canal) then went back to Keeler via Adams-Campbell-Jackson-Pulaski-Wrightwood-Keeler. After Addison was cut to Lake Shore in 1970, these trips were switched to work off Diversey. After arriving at Diversey/Sheridan, they went up Sheridan-LSD local-Addison-Broadway-Sheridan to Pine Grove and then south as 151's as before. They were taken off in the early 80's as part of the big North Lake Shore reorganization.

Also, 52nd had 151 trips for years. Came downtown as 2-Hyde Park Exp, continued to Sheridan/Belmont, came back as 151's to Michigan/Adams, then went to the old State/15th midday lot. These also went away early 80's. Since then 151 has been mostly North Park, with Kedzie running Belmont short line.

Not quite true, as far as some of the routes turned out to be. Right now #6 (Jackson Park Express) is handled entirely by 103rd while #62 is mostly Kedzie (with 74th operating a few rush-period runs). #151 remains split between North Park and Kedzie only (NP will continue to handle the full-length #151 trips plus a few of the short-turns while K will continue to handle the remaining short-turns). #1 will remain 77th-only. Five other routes, #2, #29, #30, #71 and #95W, are split between 77th and 103rd.

The weekend-only #10, which was split between Kedzie and 103rd (or was that 77th?) prior to the current realignment, reverted to a Kedzie-only route. And most of the downtown rush-hour Metra express feeder routes (#120, #121, #123 and #125) will be operated by five of the seven active garages (all except 74th and Forest Glen).

It was between 77th/ mostly Kedzie that did Route 10. 103rd never done that route.

This just shows how I failed to keep up with the changing assignments. I merely made a guess as to which South Side garage handled select #10 runs. But now, it's all Kedzie on that route (and that's mainly because 77th no longer has any artics).

Likewise, as I stated earlier, all #6 runs are now from 103rd. The #6, along with the #10 and a few other express routes operated out of 77th at the time, were among the biggest reasons why 77th even had artics in the first place. And although #2 is shared between 77th and 103rd, one can expect 103rd to operate most of the runs on that route since (as a general rule) expresses which operate along Lake Shore Drive are among the most likely to be run with artics. The latter route, which for many years had operated only in the peak direction of travel (northbound during the morning rush, southbound during the afternoon rush), currently operates in both directions during the rush periods.

Exactly. Kedzie has done all the 10 runs, including the weekend ones, since the realignment of 3/23/08 and has almost always done them with 40 footers mostly 1000s.

Oh, that made sense. Especially since at least one other South Lake Shore Drive express route (#6 Jackson Park Express) stops about a block away from the Museum's front door. And the #10 did not need to run artics because #6 occasionally used them. The combined service levels of the two routes were frequent enough to not require artics on either route.

Basically, though, the express portion of 10 is to get people to and from the Museum. This is sort of like saying that the purpose of the 19 is to get people to Billy Goat's near the UC. I really doubt that someone who wants to get to the area around 57th and Stony Island wants to walk a half mile from the Museum's front door, or transfer to the 55 bus; ditto if they want to get to around 55th and Hyde Park.

Uh Busjack, 57th and Stony Island isn't a half mile from the Museum's front door. It takes just a little bit longer to walk there than it would to the 56th/Hyde Park bus stop if you were going to use the 6 as an alternative to the 10 which I think RJL was getting at.
