Because Skokie Shops have jurisdiction over all rail cars when it comes to deliveries and retirements. You cannot make retirement moves in any other yards that involves switch personnel preparing trains for service and laying up trains from service. It’s against Standard Operating Procedures. Like when it came out (when improper welds were found on the 5000s) that Lake shop was also doing 54th's work, Midway is also doing Kimball's work. Kimball shop and yard might have been adequate in about 1987, but not now. Which baffles me that Brown and Orange had 24s (Before 1993 for Ravenswood), 26s, and 3200s. Makes me wonder if Midway Shop ever touched 24s before them being transferred to Green Line after the Lake Street Branch reconstruction. Krambles CTA at 45 (1992) had pictures of the temporary Ravenswood shop while a new one being constructed with a 2700 in it, the construction of the Orange Line (chicago-l.org says it opened in 1993), and a new 3200 with an orange Ford City roll sign. So, until more recent times (i.e. Brownage, and then the shift to the Blue Line) the Orange Line ran only 3200s. The Orange Line then was said to need 90-110 cars, and since 256 were ordered, the rest went to Brown ad Yellow (although some single units were rebuilt and paired for the Yellow Line; they eventually became work cars). The only thing the book incorrectly predicted was that more 3200-type cars would be needed to replace the 2000s, but they were retired by 1994. chicago-l,org has 2400s all over the place, but basically around the 1990s on West-South, which was Lake-Dan Ryan, and then to te Red Line until the Green Line reopened.. Bus1883
#2797-98, #3001-02 and #3097-98 spotted at 98th yard there are two more cars there but I didn’t get the numbers. They may possibly be on their way to Midway as they are completely off the Blue Line.

It makes sense that the Blue Line Yards don't have room but one would think Midway Would Have the room. I'm guessing these cars aren't work cars which would be the only reason there should be 2600s in 98th Yard.

It could be another factor besides that, I’m just assuming they may go to midway because they’re off blue, I could be wrong but they are sitting there don’t take my word for it lol, if that was the case they would go directly there instead. Erin Mishkin Jr.
The only trains that came off the blue line last year or early this year that are in active service on the Orange Line are 2843 and 2844. Most of the cars (2777-2778, 3045-3046, 2651-2652, just to name a few) have not been used and some of those cars have been vandalized and were sitting like that for months. I’ve seen #3153-54 a few weeks ago leading a southbound train out of Roosevelt. #3077-78 is sitting on the west end in rosemont yard and haven’t also ran in months as well as #3277-78 with both pairs graffitied. WCR
As of this morning there are at least five 8-car sets of 2600s at 98th. I couldn't get many numbers but 2937-38 was one unit.
Jackson232
There is one at least one set of cars that I saw at the rosemont yard that were graffitied.
artthouwill
I suppose the Brown Line Kimball Yard is the easiest for taggers to access. Maybe these 2600s are being sent to 98th Yard, Rosemont Yard, and possibly Midway and Harlem Yards for graffiti removal and cleaning. CTA may have to return the e200s back to the Brown Line sooner than desired if tagging continues to be a problem with the 2600s.

I was just by the kimball brown line a few days ago and there were no taggings. I feel like I almost never see any taggings there.
