eyetube21
Today, I rode the 5000s on the Green Line heading to Harlem. On the opposite direction, I saw car #5023-24 have new LED colorized signs on them. They were heading south to Cottage Grove/63rd terminal. Red line's got some more #2400's now. Spotted #2471-72 and #2485-86 over there. Looks like they have the #2480's and 70's now.

The Red is taking one small step backwards ahead of a giant leap forward. The 2400's will be sitting ducks for when the 5000's invade Howard Yard. See Tea Eh
Green Line 5027-28, and a pair in the 5030s (I forget the exact numbers) also have the new color signs.

chgofan78
Red line's got some more #2400's now. Spotted #2471-72 and #2485-86 over there. Looks like they have the #2480's and 70's now. Most of the 2460's have been on the Red Line now for a week.
BusHunter
Most of the 2460's have been on the Red Line now for a week. That would explain why I haven't seen them on the Green line. I know the Green line had a major transfer of #2400's over the weekend. Anyone could see the difference between Friday's yard and Sunday's. (adjustment for getting the Pink line #5000's)Now the yard is mostly #5000's (had them yesterday on at least 4 yard tracks) and your wondering where are the #2400's? It should be interesting when the #5000's come to Red line. Soon we'll see how the cars work under pressure (a true test) and constant heavy demand. RJL6000
Green Line 5027-28, and a pair in the 5030s (I forget the exact numbers) also have the new color signs. Some of those should be headed back to the Pink Line in a week or two. It appears that the retrofit with multicolored signs is being performed at the Harlem Yard shop facility (at the west end of the Green Line). Next week, some of those lower-numbered 5000s so retrofit should be headed back to the Pink Line, and in exchange the Green Line should be receiving some 5000s that have not yet been retrofit with the colored signs so that they could be retrofit. RJL6000
In addition to the aforementioned 5027-5028 and 5033-5034, unit 5105-5106 now has the multicolored signs. I saw it in Green Line service today.

jajuan
It'll be nice to see these retrofits completed so that these fluctuations can settle down in car usage.
eyetube21
There are some changes of 5000s roster. I just spotted cars #5001-02 and #5067-68 back on the Pink Line, and #5069-70 are on the Green Line today.

RJL6000
Today the Green Line is running 4 csr consists of 5000s. This means that the 2490s and some 2460s should be headed to the Red Line while some of the Red Line's lower-numbered 2600s should be headed to the Blue Line to retire additional 2200s. T8H5307A
Today the Green Line is running 4 csr consists of 5000s. Yes, starting with run #005, the 12:36 departure from Harlem and then the rest of the 6 car consists that were out there were cut down to 4 cars. chgofan78
This means that the 2490s and some 2460s should be headed to the Red Line while some of the Red Line's lower-numbered 2600s should be headed to the Blue Line to retire additional 2200s. As of about two to three weeks ago, the Red Line has all the 2460s and also 2459-2460. All that is left on the Green Line I believe is 2411-2446, 2449-2458, 2491-2496 and possibly the mismates 2469-2504 and 2531-2482. The Red Line has lost a sizable chunk of lower-numbered 2600s to Blue Line and Blue Line has transferred random 2900s, 3000s and 3100s to the Purple Line. But, I've noticed a lot of destination signs are not being changed even though the sticker in the cab has been updated. I've seen numerous Purple Line cars displaying Green Line signs (3125-3126, 3063-3064 and a few more to name a few) even though they've been on the Purple Line with interior maps for a few weeks. See Tea Eh
Green Line running four-car consists of 5000s wouldn't enable any extra 2400s to move, since it doesn't reduce the actual car requirement on the route. They still run six-car sets during the week.

I cant believe that the Blue Line, the 2nd busiest rapid transt line in the system, which serves a good portion of the city and the one of the country's largest and busiest airports is losing some of its newer equipment and being replaced by CTAs oldest cars. This is just plain ridiculous! Sending out its newer 2900 to 3100s and getting the oldest 2600s in the fleet? This sucks! So now the Blue Line will run some of the oldest and most worn equipment in the fleet! Great way to welcome in visitors to Chicago!

So now the Blue Line will run some of the oldest and most worn equipment in the fleet! Great way to welcome in visitors to Chicago! I think it has to do with balance. For the Red Line, that means have upper 2600s AND 2400s. The Blue Line running 2200s have no 2400s at all (never had and never will). I believe the Blue will be all 2600s eventually when the 2200s are completely gone. Based on the 5000s seating configuration, the 5000s would not work at all. As far as the 3200s go, if they do a rehab to make them electrically compatable with the 5000s, it seems that they would get all of the upgrades except reconfiguring the seats (if what CTA says is true concerning seating as part of the overall design structure of the cars). These cars may or may not make it to the Blue Line. We will see down the line.
