Javi78
How did CTA strike the deal for 1,030 buses in one series? I remember seeing the 1000s for the very first time on the 50 Damen and I wouldn’t never expected them to be the majority of the bus fleet. I used to get upset when I missed one and got a 4400, 5300 or 6400.

I’m not sure about a deal moreso with 450 4400s, another 450 5300s plus the 5800s all biting the dust at the same time (roughly 1000 buses total) cta just kept exercising options and tweaking specs here and there since the original option flyers seemed to hold up pretty well. That’s when cta finally realized equipment was a big issue.

Oi believe Option 3 started with 1630, which were the buses that had the blue tinted interior lights. I believe option 4 came with a different transmission and the bowling alley seats starting with 1929. The New Flyers replaced 4 series of buses (4400s, 5300s, 5800s, and 6000s). I don’t think the #1000s roughly replaced most of the #6000s most likely I believe they’ve only replaced the unrehabbed ones (in my opinion). If u add 470 #5300s, 65 #5800s, 476 #4400s and 330 #6000s that is a little roughly 1,341 buses needed to be replaced. Tbh I believe the #4150s were ordered to replace the remaining #6000s. If the #6000s were never retired in 2010 and into late 2011, they’ve could of got the tools to keep them afloat while they could of lasted into 2013 or got retired by 2015 when the #7900s came in.

Some 6000s were supposed to be replaced by the first set of 4000s but the 7500s failure put a stop to that and the 4150s went to bring artic numbers back to normal. The New Flyers arrived in 5 batches. Base order + 4 options 1000-1244 base order 2006 1245-1429 1st option 2006/7 1430-1629 2nd option 2007/8 1630-1929 3rd option 2008 1930-2029 4th option 2008/9 They replaced the 4400 RTS, the 5300 series of Flxible Metros, and the 5800 New Flyers as well as some of the 6000's (mainly in the 6305-6329 series with different engines). 3 were withdrawn before 1/07, w in 2007, 24 in 2008 and 26 in 2009. The majority of the 6000s were withdrawn with the February 2010 service reductions when 18% of the bus service was withdrawn (eliminating all of the express X routes and 53AL as well as service reductions for every bus route.) These vehicles were not replaced immediately, although subsequent service improvements has increased the fleet. The 6000s were stored at the Archer bus garage which was closed as part of the service reductions. The 265 vehicles stored/withdrawn in 2010 were: 6000-2/4/7-15/7-26/8-36/8-70/2-7/80-3/5-7/90-7/9, 6100-9/12-4/7-22/5-41/4/5/7-77/9-84/6-97/9, 6200-2/4-9/11/3-5/7-27/9-34/6-56/8-68/70-3/5/7-84/6-94/6-9 6300/2-4/10/6/22/4/6/7

Apparently CTA wanted every 3 4000s to replace 4 6000s (this is back when cta thought throwing artics more places were the answer to crowds) and even had an insane contract that got renigged for up to 900 artics. Of course with service reductions and the fiasco the 6000s got shelved because on top of being old they were the 280 buses that equaled the amount of service being cut. It’s kind of a gray area I guess you’d really have to comb through back some years to catch what I was saying. The 900 artics thread basically has what you’re looking for on that note if you’re interested it’s gonna take me a minute before I can screenshot and post them here for quicker reference
