Dam they calling for 16 days of shut down its a bit much but I would most def be with it if they said 16 hours they wanted cta to shut down cause that mf van dyke got off way too easy if that had of been me I would have gotten more then 16 years but since hes white & was a cop they get slaps on the wrist but I hope they do some else I'm took that day off anyways

The City didn't sentence Van Duke.  Whether anyone thinks the sentence was dairy or not. He served his time.  The City did fire him.  But everyone's worried about him getting out of jail

What about the people that attacked the CTA driver downtown?  Have any of them been caught?  People really have priorities misplaced.

I thought even though the tracks were on the side that part of the reason for dragging and waiting on CDOT is because one of the proposals to widen the Express would even up needing to use some space in that ROW forcing the frieght line to close a lesser used track? We need to backtrack through some earlier forums lol

It wouldn't be   CDOT, but IDOT, especially since CDOT doesn't have jurisdiction in Oak Park and Forest Park. The way it sounded is that the only thing decided was to add another lane in that stretch, and move the exit ramps to the right. Seems like all untangling the Hillside Strangler did was move the traffic jam to 25th Ave,

Thats cause CPD dont catch them & why they don't cause have of the attacks are in the real Chicago where they city dont care about now drivers that get attacked downtown them mfs get cause cause that's where they car about you can call in a person with a gun down time & by the time you hang up half the department sliding up take that same call & put it in the real Chicago & it a take 10 mins for even 1 or 2 sqauds to slide up that is CPD fault why peopple dont gw cause when they attack us

I really can't believe you typed this when the issues behind why the Forest Park branch hasn't begun rehabilitation has been discussed on this forum for years ?

The tracks dont have nothing to do with the highway tho imo

If depends

As @ Busjack stated, if they add another lane in each direction and move the Oak Park exits to the right, it could affect CTA.  Remember there are unused tracks south of the CTA row.  ALSO there was talk of shifting the Forest Park station north of Van Buren along said tracks.  If that's true. Or even if not, shifting CTA tracks is an lption.

You are absolutely correct about Hillside.  In my opinion if they widen the expressway to four lanes between 25th and Austin,  that wouldn't untangle the traffic jam.

Traffic a still be jammed cause people dont know how to drive just like if they move the exits for the right traffic will forever be jammed like they are now cause people are use to it being on the left instead of right

About 9 years ago, it did. A Press Release said that CTA was studying the Forest Park Branch in coordination with IDOT planning for the Byrne Interchange and I-290 studies.   However, the Eisenhower Expressway site basically indicates that while the final Environmental Impact Statement was approved in 2017, no funding has been found since. Channel 7 said above that maybe the Infrastructure Bill will take care of that problem. The EIS leaves open such things as extending the Blue Line to Mannheim or constructing an express bus lane (presumably for Pace) west of DesPlaines Ave., so CTA gets involved in some manner or the other.

I'm trying to look around the forum as far as the ROW cause that's where they mentioned the blue line might get shifted a bit into the freight ROW. Renew the blue forum hints at it I'm trying to get a good enough quote. Who knows it might be one of those things that gets mentioned once and never heard again just like the Turn back at Argyle Red Line

FWIW, the 2017 video says something at 6:18 about staying in the same trench in the Oak Park area, but also that a next step is engineering, which apparently still hasn't happened.

It is not totally unused. There is still a regular freight switched route serving the Ferrara Pan factory at Harlem | Circle. Shutting down that line would mean more trucks on the highway further congesting traffic; not just on the Eisenhower.

The light bulb question is, why order 600 new diesel buses if we need to go all  fully electric by 2040? My million dollar idea is they should of put that in the contract for 600 new electric nova buses. The CTA's goal is to retire the #8350's years away from 2040 but it makes sense for the main goal for us to start packing our bags to go all electric now.

The technology is still relatively new.   The 700 series stays in the shop more than in the streets.   Same for the 600 series Proterras.   CTA can't afford to order 500 electrics now when they can't run 5 electrics consistently.

This has been answered at every CTA and Pace board meeting in the past 6 months--there isn't enough capacity to fulfill such an order.

To add on to this:

  • By the time final delivery is done in 2025 (or before that), these buses will go thru life and then be at, going through and/or done with the retirement process by 2040.
  • Last year, some of the largest orders of BEBs were placed. None of these orders exceeded 75 buses, and one of the procurers was NYC MTA, who's small orders tend to dwarf other agencies medium-to-large orders.
  • Some agencies who ordered electric buses almost a decade ago have them sidelined right now, because the technology has advanced past what it's worth to repair the vehicles (Foothill Transit is one such example).
  • There are only 3 BEB manufacturers in the country (New Flyer, Proterra & NovaBus) and 1 is notorious for it's backlog, which also happens to be the only one solely focused on BEBs.
    • Gillig has now joined the fray, at the end of last year, so we're back to the usual number of bus manufacturers at least.
  • 1 diesel bus is still cleaner than 10-15 cars, simply for the amount of them it takes off the road. The environmental onus needs to be on corporations who pollute the most, not transit riders who are already doing their part.
  • Then there's everything else to consider: power grid demand, garage placement, charging equipment/methods, etc. MBTA & King County Metro are building new garages to house the beginnings of their electric fleet. WMATA is retrofitting a garage to do this.
    • CTA has no such plans for any of this type of work, at least not before the end of the decade. Not to mention, finding space for a new garage if they choose not to/can't retrofit is going to be a hassle, especially since the park district took that huge parcel of land by Western Orange

Unusual for a bus to chill out there?  Especially when that bus isn't running in Ashland    To mt knowledge there aren't any Ashland short turns on the 76 or 152. Were you heading NB OR SB in Ashland?

Bus driver could've also gone to the bathroom?

Semi-unrelated to that, years ago when I was in ATL, I was on the NB 110 bus, when the driver got to a stop, let people on and off and ducked into the McD's right next to the stop. I thought he was going to the bathroom, and he might've! But he also came out 7 or so minutes later with a coffee and 2 breakfast sandwiches. To this day, it's equal parts hilarious and infuriating (cause I had somewhere to be)

At least your driver was on route.

Depending on the route drivers may not have an opportunity to purchase a lunch at their relief piunt or at the end if their route if they lunch themselves.   So why not stop mid route and get something to eat?  It doesn't hurt to double it as a bathroom break.  While make drivers can relieve themselves anywhere (#1), female drivers don't have that luxury

Also, some drivers may need to eat or take food with their medication.   I would rather wait a few minutes for a driver to get food than to have him suffer a medical emergency behind the wheel    I do understand about having somewhere to go,  especially if there's a time element involved

Yeah, my sentiments exactly, I was only upset as I was that day because I needed to be somewhere, but I'm ultimately glad he was able to eat. And he could certainly drive a bus and eat at the same time, so he'd definitely earned his CDL lol
