biffalow
Hopefully your maintenance guys will fix that soon. Those buses shouldn't be having that kind of issue so soon. Or send them to my neighborhood and let Kedzie handle it. Seemed to work with the NABIs with that switch earlier this year between Kedzie and NP. I hope that could happen. I remember earlier this year on the Pulaski bus route bus #1355 was running real slow. So slow that Control told the bus driver to go to the gargage. So she went out of service. Lucky for me, me and my friends caught that bus on 31st before it went out of service. But it took 20 minutes nonstop to get from 31st to Roosevelt. THOSE BUSES ARE STILL KINDA NEW BUT I GUESS THE MEAN CHICAGO STREETS MESSED THEM UP A BIT. :D
nflyer22
Yeah, and to add to that matter, the whole main support frame (or axle) of the rear doors (the small part on top that can be seen, around the LED exit lights, those have been fully rusted within 2 months of delivery. Even though when you exit the bus, you don't notice anything different, but it may become a big issue later on. The same has happened with the Novas, but it looks like nothing major has occurred. That Kedzie comment was meant as a joke, but in all seriousness Kedzie doesn't seem to be having much issues with its older NFs though the 900s have been having issues with breakdowns this previou year. sw4400
Last sunday i had 1355 and 1323 on Chicago av. Those two flyers were showing there age at only a year and a half old. I hope this isn't something serious... We're getting 1,030 of these buses!!! If they are having problems like this so early, then we may have 1,030 serious problems to deal with... and soon!!! Winter is coming and it takes it's toll on many mechanical things!!!

Before we sound the major alarm bells, we're only talking about two buses out of just over 900 delivered. We've yet to see anything major occurring with these buses. If there were going to be any serious problems with these buses like what's been going on with the NABIs, I think we would have seen them pop them up by now. The oldest of these buses are 1/6 of the way into their standard useful lifespan. Like with any other machine, you're going to see some problems arise among one or two here and there. Overall the garages that have these buses have done a fairly good job of maintaining them. It's well more than likely that whatever sluggish engine problems these two have will be fixed. jajuan
I saw NF bus #1899 on Broadway today and saw the Bus sign and Run number boxes was not working and I was shock a new bus already broken. The bus was just delivered in the past week, and past sightings and posts have suggested that the newest buses don't always get the route and run information programmed into the CD and Luminator devices right away in their first week of service. This most likely is the case here to explain the blank destination sign and run box. Past new buses just delivered have displayed "CTA Program 3/23/08' (this year's spring pick/change date) or some other major pick date besides being totally blank on others to indicate the above mentioned devices weren't completely programmed. The bus was definitely not broken. Otherwise they would not have put in on the road.

I'd calm down if I were you, here in the GTA, we got D40LFs that are already 12 (Brampton Transit), 9 (TTC) and 5 (Mississauga Transit) years old and they're all still running great. Just because there's rust stains doesn't mean the bus is already in bad shape, it's common on all NFIs to develop rust stains underneath the doorways. As for the slow acceleration, that just could've been the driver for all we know.
greenstreet
Look for 1900 and 1906 at 103rd, and 1905 at North Park. And 4415, 4519, 4607, 4609, 4618 & 4634 moved from 103rd to 77th. Now 24 TMCs at 77th and 23 at 103rd. Eleven more 5800s retired -5803, 5805, 5824, 5829, 5830, 5841, 5844, 5846, 5848, 5857 & 5862 - leaving only 17 5800-New Flyers at North Park. jajuan
Reynaldo poses a good question. 77th is the only garage left to have 1991 buses that hasn't gotten a second set of NFs. With so few TMCs, there doesn't seem a need to deliver a set of NFs there at this point because of the likelihood it will get 4000s in prep for BRT coming in the next year or so. Chicago's 1991s seem to be getting replaced with NFs and a few 6000s from other garages so we know they won't get another set. Any in extra from the wind-down of 3Track can probably still be retired with no replacement.
cta 5555
We only have 101 to 108 for three track runs at Chicago. So that means when all the 5000s go we need more buses. But if it was up to me i keep them.

But if it was up to me i keep them. This doesn't make sense. The stated capacity of the garage is 250 and reports are that the garages are holding up to 300. Nevertheless, reports also are that Chicago has about 190 NFs already, plus whatever 5300s are left, plus 40+ 6000s (which appear to be placeholders for 30 4000s). If in fact, Chicago had 108 buses for 3 track, which will end in December, that would indicate that it has too many NFs already. Huberman says 3 track takes about 60 buses (and some of those runs are out of FG). But this might indicate that to balance the load, Chicago might be taking more routes on when 3 track ends. I think you might have misunderstood cta 5555. I think he mean't 101 to 108 run numbers were being used for three track. In other words 8 buses. By what he says he's stating Chicago would be about 20 or 25 buses short when you take away the #5300's minus three track extras. Even though 3 track started with 60 buses those 60 have dwindled down to where only a few are needed.

However, since it appears that the allocation at that garage hasn't decreased much at all, what routes then needed the extra buses freed up by 3 track dwindling? Your last post had 33 left. Is it much lower almost into November? (That number was of 10 days ago, if your October report was contemporaneous with its posting.) BusExpert32
The most recent 4400 swap between 103rd and 77th definitely explains my sighting of #4618 today (10/31) on the #6, but I don't know why it was allowed on that route. Alot of #5300's at Chicago were just retired as the dwindling happened, that's why the #5300 numbers went down there. Lately though bus transfers are needed to replace what's left because all you can dwindle is 8 more and that's not much. #5300 totals are still the same, most likely they'll need a bus transfer to replace more. BUSANGEL#1
After the swap between NP and 103, the last 69 flyers will go to Chicago and 77th with an odd and even swap between 1961-2028. FG will not be receiving any new buses at all due to the novas being rehabbed now.

FG will not be receiving any new buses at all due to the novas being rehabbed now.Any source for this, or just rank speculation? (Don't flame me, bro ) For 70 buses, an odd-even swap wouldn't make sense. And, as frequently stated, it makes little sense to speculate among Chicago and 77 unless you know where the 4000s are going. Maybe rmadison does. Apparently, you also aren't accounting for 2029. Also, the Novas being rehabbed wouldn't have any effect on FGs 6000s, some of which will become surplus (the 4400s, 5300s and 5800s are supposed to be gone close to New Year's, according to Carole, but deliveries of 1000s and 4400s continue into summer). There aren't enough Novas to run FG unless all of 77th's are transferred there (and while that was speculated, never happened). For that matter, if 4000s get a permanent home on 156 and like Kedzie routes, maybe some NABIs get fixed and go back to 77th. Like the stock market, in these times we can count only on uncertainty. It would eliminate there 1991 buses though. That would give Chicago three different sets of #1000's!! I don't think FG is getting anything but nova's either, #4000's are just too radical of a change for them. When enough #1000's are displaced by future orders, then FG will most likely get some #1000's. Until then they are Nova country. BTW, I like the new signs showing the #1000's on the advertizing cards behind the driver. Probably at FG territory people are wondering what kind of bus that is, not having seen anything like it out there.

Sort of a laugh that the garage that was the first to get them now has no chance, according to the consensus here. Of course, trainman isn't going to like the "1000's are displaced by future orders" if the future is the near future. One would have thought that some planning went into this, but... jajuan
older NFs from Kedzie will ended up to go to 74th According to whom? And what would Kedzie get in return for this wishful thinking when it's doubtful they're going to hold on to those 40 6000-series Flxibles for too long with 4000s coming in at this point? A few others, not you, have become fixated on this odd notion that Kedzie and Chicago should hold on to these pieces of junk while the pushing out more NF 40 footers instead. From a maintenance cost point of view, dumb move. If your garage is getting newer pieces of equipment to work with, move out the oldest equipment, not the newer that was there already, to make room as has almost always been done.
