andrethebusman99 Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 With universal digital destination signs and system wide radio frequencies, there is no reason whatever for a bus to be "assigned" to a garage. Move on a day to day basis where needed. New York has been doing this for years. Bus goes to shop for any kind of work, day it comes out goes to whatever garage needs a bus that day. 1 Quote

I'm not quite in agreement, though I understand the sentiment. There has to be X amount of buses at a given garage, so assigning blocks of buses makes sense. Mist minor repairs can be done at the home garage. We know major repairs are done at SS. It wouldn't make any sense to send a Nova bus to North Park as a permanent replacement because North Park needs a bus and the Nova was the first available. Temporarily yes, permanent reassignment to North Park? No. We know North Park has no Novas and there's a cost to stocking parts for different makes and models. Notice the L system doesn't mix fleets. Notice Southwest Airlines only flies 737s from Boeing. While there's risks involved, fleet commonality saves time and money. Quote
