More Bus Moves

Loans for the defunct arctics I assume out of 103rd. Most the Hybrid 4300s are back in service out of 103rd. Now it leads me to wonder about the status of the #4000s.

You know I forgot they shipped off alot of buses to C K & FG

That's covered in his last bullet point marked C when he says they sent out to other garages when they probably should have kept them. Over the course of their receiving 8350s, they sent NFs out to every other garage except 6 (74th for our members not yet familiar with CTA garage codes). Yes they unloaded a good chunk at the later part of the summer, but it was a spread to enough garages (largest portion being given to NP actually) that it's really no point in rehashing a full list again.

The crazy part is they had to borrow NFs soon after they gave FG that first round of buses following their first touching a decent number of 8350s early on in deliveries. You'd think they'd have learned not to give away too many NFs until absolutely sure they won't need them for artic replacement to continue service.

I thought Garage Maintenance managers make those decisions.

I asked the question before and didn't get an answer, but someone should know. But I don't find it conceivable that someone at FG said to ship 65 comparatively new buses to K.

I think 567 assigns/controls bus assignments; the garage personel just maintain the buses, dispatch and assign the runs. Reasoning is the scheduling department determines how many buses per route, bus moves tend to show some type of logistical motivation behind them (some garages gaining during summer pick for events, equipment consolidation, milage swap) and up till recently all equipment was organized by number blocks across all garages rather by sequential patterns or even odd splits that definitely couldn't be that well coordinated at the garage level considering those staff are busy enough as is with day to day ops lol

I remember "103rd will get the 1430s" "no, NP will get the 1430s" when it turned out to be the odd/even split because both garages' 4400s fell apart at the same time. Obviously there were somr high level decisions, such as FG got buses with preheaters even though that left K with junk, several mileage swaps involving 77th, and, of course, the reallocation of 1000s after the rehabs. What isn't so clear are such moves as FG got 8350s but lost 8260s, etc.

Which makes me wonder if there isn't some political influence behind some of these moves as well.  Fair or not, it seems the city wants to prioritize the South Side and West Side getting newer equipment.   They have said so.  Yet they know they can't totally neglect the North and Northwest sides of the city either

The last part of your point reminds me that even before that big swap with K to mitigate higher number NFs at K konking out in higher than expected frequency, FG was seeing a gain in NFs after receiving 8350s and a loss of Novas rather than just the other way around. There was the shift of buses from the 8300-8324 range down to 103rd in exchange for 1050s and some 1060s up to FG for example.
