wordguy
In addition to redistribution of the Artics, and the migration of additional standard New Flyers from Kedzie to Forest Glen, 74th Street appears to have received 8 more 1500s over the weekend: 3 from 77th (1548-1550), and 5 from North Park (the odd 1550s). So the 74th Street roster now includes everything between 1530 and 1560. Just a little bit of speculation here, but I couldn't help noticing that the only Cummins Flxibles in service this evening were 6321-6323. I'm guessing that the other remaining Cummins Flxs. may have been displaced by newly-arrived 1500s at 74th. Also, unless I overlooked one or two, it didn't seem as if any of Forest Glen's unrehabbed 6000s were on Bustracker today. With the arrival of some 1190s and more low 1200s from Kedzie, just wondering if 6114 ... etc., might have logged their last miles as well. There don't seem to have been any reassignments of FG's surviving 6000s.

This might also explain jacksone's post that a couple of 1100s are back at K from 74, as well as BusHunter's that the fleet was up 30 (and imo apparently for no reason). Stuff may be starting to fall into place now that the stimulus buses are about all here, including knocking some 6000s off the roster. However, does this leave some holes at 74th in the 1500s above 1560?

And I think I saw the unrehabbed 6130s too, but I'm not sure anymore.

Actually those buses mentioned back at Kedzie (1160 and 1161) have been back at Kedzie for months now, quite some time before this shuffle of 1000s up to FG started. Since the spring if I recall correctly.
wordguy
It looks like they're trying to get everything in proper sequence maybe they sent 1032-1036 in their place to 103rd More likely, the transfer of 2025-2029 from 103rd to Chicago Ave. increased the fleet size at Chicago by 5 buses. I doubt that there was a trade. Over the weekend, once the dust settled, 103rd Street gained 15 Artics; so those 2000s could probably be spared. artthouwill
At some point won't there be consideration of getting those 40 ft NFs back at Archer? Let's face it, it is the only garage now without them. If my math serves me correctly, 1030 40ft NF buses divided by 8 garages comes out to about 127.5 buses per garage. I know that would create another bus shuffle of mindboggling proportions but it would be fair. It would also help if all of those NFs under 1303 would be retrofitted with new seats (like those 1303 and higher). It would be easy to change the interior lighting on those older buses to look like the ones on 1630 and above. Making those minor changes would ensure the casual CTa rider would not necessarily know if they have an older NF or a newer one.

Yep, I see what you mean. 6114, 6118, 6151, & 6159 all appeared on BusTracker today during peak travel periods; likewise, 6321-6324 & 6327. As far as I can tell, the following non-rehabs seem to be MIA: 6123, 6132, & 6178 from FG, and 6308, 6310, 6316 & 6326 from 74th. Just based on observation; nothing official. Also, Archer added at least six Novas to its fleet over the weekend: 6467-6470 from 77th, and 6708-6709 from Forest Glen. Not sure about 6710-6712. MT0851
4008 appeared very very briefly on the 146 going south around the Museum Campus on the bus tracker about 40 minutes ago, it said "no scheduled times available" or something along the lines of that and disapeared shortly after. BusHunter
These buses have been at 74th for some time now (at least 3 months). No, these post #1588's evens are new. Today #1590's on the #44, #1596's on the #9, and #1594's on the 53A. 74th has a respectable 150 #1000's now. BTW, #1598 - #1604 evens are still at 103rd. They'll probably end up at 74th also. BusHunter
Some more Nova's have worked their way to Archer. #6715 and #6713 are on the #49 as well as #6714 on the #94. Also #6466 has appeared on the #49 too. Also it seems that the #54B and #79 are terminating their SB and WB service at the solo cup factory instead of Ford City. Before I think it was just a few runs, now it seems to be all at least in the rush. I wonder if maybe the mall might be complaining now that they have the #67, #79 and #54B running to their mall with layovers their being held to a minimum at least in the rush. The BusTracker map indicates for 79 that the route is through Ford City and then to Solo cup, instead of short turning by, for instance, going 79th-Kostner and back the same way. This doesn't seem any different from when I was scoping out traffic at Ford City (both CTA and Pace), where the 79s said "Ford City and Solo Cup" or "Ford City and Sweetheart Cup" and stopped only briefly at the mall bus stop. So, I don't think this is anything new.

So, I don't think this is anything new. It's not anything new. 54B and 79 have both been going to Solo Cup at least since 2007 (the year I first observed them serving Solo Cup). As Busjack observed, both directions of each route still make the mall bus stop before and after serving the Solo Cup Factory. It's nothing to do with the mall not wanting buses having a layover in front, otherwise route 67 wouldn't have been added to the mix. Those routes go there to help the Solo Cup workers have an easy transit option to get to work. With 67's routing to Ford City it also serves Solo Cup but from the opposite direction. So it reaches Solo Cup before the mall instead of after like 54B and 79.

This enabled 103rd to send five 1500s to 74th as well as at least six buses to Chicago Ave. (1031 & 2025-2029).

So Chicago regained 1031 along with getting the five oddball 2000s that didn't go to Chicago with the rest in that idiotic delivery of those 25 others to 103rd just to send them to Chicago. FG's also in surplus gaining 29 #1000's and only losing 10 #6000's and so far 8 #6400's and Archer has gained 13 #6400's even though they lost the #173 and #174. I wonder why Archer seems to be gaining buses.

New Flyer
CTA will need those buses remember they were supposed to start new routes with grants from the government a new route on 83rd street, all day service on the number 1 along with what they've just done.
