andrethebusman
#1168? That's most likely a loan from Kedzie. Dayloan form K - also 1608. Probably both went home sometime Sat
ChicagoNova
Thanks. I may be wrong but I thought Kedzie had some between 4330-4361 in the early 2000s. No. That was 103rd, then Forest Glen to retire the D901As.

ctrabs74
I wonder if, when planning for major events such as A&W, Lollapalooza, etc. if CTA considers other route that operate near the area when dealing with passenger loads. For example, during the Saturday of Lollapalooza, the #29 State bus was packed to the gills leaving Navy Pier using 1000s while the #124 schedule was completely screwed up. They post the Passenger Notices on what routes have increased service, so I guess if the route is not listed, it doesn't get it. There is, of course, a finite limit to the extra board and spare buses.
jajuan
Hmmm, I know FG had a few 1600s back then but 41XX is very interesting. I'm trying to figure out the Americanas' roster on behalf of NP and Kedzie. I see you're trying to remember how MAN Americanas were divided. Bufan is correct about Kedzie's allotment with one slight correction, I think it was 4000-4074 that were always there if my memory isn't too faulty. A few things to remember is that 74th didn't exist in the Americanas' early days, and that any Americanas it had were originally at its predecessor 69th Garage. The other thing is that 103rd's Americanas were assigned to 77th prior to 1988, the year 103rd opened. So Americana assignments looked something like this: 4000-4074 @ K up until 2001-02. Starting in 2001 buses that were not yet retired gradually sent to NP. Last existing K assigned buses moved to NP in 2002* 4075-4096 @ K until early 1994. Assigned to 69th 1994-1995 to help operate 38 Michigan Express during Green Line shutdown. Moved to 74th in July 1995 when 74th opened to replace 69th. Sent back to K in 1996 when Green Line reconstruction ended. Those surviving retirement reassigned to NP* 4097-4149 @ 69th until 69th's closing in 1995. In 1995, moved to 74th, which replaced 69th. 4097-4112 sent to K along with 4075-4096 in 1996 due to #38 no longer being needed and also because more Flx 6000s were arriving at 74th, making more routes at that garage wheelchair accessible. Last ten existing buses sent to FG for short period in 2002 when Flyer D901A buses retired from CTA service. Any remaining in late 2002 reassigned to NP 4150-4221 @69th until 69th closed. Reassigned to NP in 1995 after 69th closes. 4222-4289 primarily assigned to NP though some buses numbered in 4260s and 4280s had been assigned to 103rd at various points. 4290-4361 assigned to 77th up until 1988. Moved to 103rd in 1988 when that garage opens to replace old Beverly Garage. Many of them scrapped in mass retirement in 2001. Most of those not scrapped assigned to FG after D901As retired from CTA service. Upon all FG routes becoming wheelchair accessible in late 2002, any still around from this group reassigned to NP. *Americanas last days at K were pretty much as Busfan mentions above

There is, of course, a finite limit to the extra board and spare buses. Sounds like Kedzie didn't have enough to spare one extra run on the #124 (which is really all that was needed; it was just a matter of the buses attempting to make the schedule and I thought having one extra bus would help out) and there weren't enough artics at 103 to slip a few on the #29. ctrabs74
And SOMEHOW only 8.5 games back of the wild card. There's hope, yet! Can't predict baseball... Although, by taking the Green back to the Blue en route back from Comiskey to our hotel near O'Hare instead of riding the Red, I at least gave my girlfriend the experience of riding the L through the Loop for the first time (she's from Edmonton; long story that I will respectfully not elaborate on, but I love her regardless). garmon757
Hey Garmon were you on the 95E bus this evening around 6:15?No. I was at work up north at the time. I rarely be on 95th and most of the time when I go visit my dad via #352 and #359.

jajuan
New transit police cars! Interesting paint jobs. They took it a step further to make it more clear that the transit detail units are indeed part of the full CPD force as we all knew.

MTRSP1900-CTA3200
Lately I've been seeing ads on the side of Blue Line trains that look like they are for Youtube. I haven't been able to fully make out what they say, but a logo on the ads looks like the Youtube logo. Also I saw a Blue Line train with white door ads with what appears to be a red V centered in the doors. Again, I couldn't fully make out what it was advertising. They've been on a few other lines as well since the start of the month. I don't recall seeing any on the 5000s, but I'm fairly positive I saw some on the Red as well. They're similar to the stations ads YouTube has in several L stations across the system.

I'm not surprised, since I almost always see a train set with the ads on the Blue Line. I'm more surprised that a website of this magnitude that I've had an account on since 2009 (and I visit almost everyday) would have ads on the L. wordguy
Wow, this can't be serious right??? Those were two among at least five randomly numbered loaners from Kedzie that were filling runs out of 74th this evening. The others I spotted on BusTracker were 1211, 1225, & 1680.

jajuan
I've seen those ads. They've actually been around for a while in different versions since late spring/early summer. They were on a lot of the bus stop shelters on the north side as well as a lot of north side buses when I noticed first noticed them. Many of the North Park 1000s had a version of these ads at one point earlier in the summer and it seemed many of the shelters along Clark were popular for these ads. After that I started seeing them on the Red and Purple Lines. I wonder if these ads are actually remnants in light of the fact that the Blue Line now has a lot of 2600 cars that were previously Red and Purple line cars as well as CTA many times having ads on its buses and trains that can be many months out of date (buses that still have Lollapalooza ads in December and January for example).
