It wasn't only rail service that was screwed up.

I was on a WB 157, which had a driver change this morning about 9:15 at Clinton/Congress, but the relief driver was stuck on a train, so we had to find a different way to continue west.

I'm not sure why the driver couldn't call the top secret control center & ask what to do, such as get some overtime by continuing on to California Ave. & getting relieved on the return trip.

Also the 8 was being diverted via Harrison, Racine and either Jackson (northbound)/ Van Buren (southbound).

7 & 60 eastbound via Halsted, Taylor, Jefferson.

It certainly was a mess. Chicago Sun Times has one of the better pictures.

Rail Line(s) Affected: Blue

Level Of Service Interruption: Significant Delays

Information: O-Hare-bound trains are standing at LaSalle due to Police Activity.

Shots reported to be fired at a Northbound train. Story

There might be a shuttle train running between Grand and Racine at this point. Looks like getting from Jackson or Clark/Lake to UIC-Halsted will be a lot harder for me today...

Blue Line is still getting back up to speed. First train that got to Jackson from O'Hare was ending its run at LaSalle, and the next train was so crowded that I got off at LaSalle anyways.

Update: 20 minutes and one garbled announcement after I got off the second train, the next train made it to LaSalle. I almost started applauding. It was packed too, but I managed to get to UIC-Halsted anyways. Hopefully things are still getting better.
