BusHunter
I just saw the 5th car out of 8 with a LED sign but car 6 did not have one. Missed car numbers. Run 406.I thought I saw that train. #3300 was digitized and #3299 wasn't. I need to see that again to make sure. #3401-02 I think is not right now, looks like I was looking at #3325-26 cause it has the signs and the same type of wrap. One train had 6 cars digitized, almost a full train yesterday. Edited June 26, 2015 by BusHunter
Pink Jazz
About the rehabbed cars, I presume the motors are still DC, is that correct? Based on my understanding, the rehab calls for rebuilding the existing motors, not a complete replacement of the motors. A complete replacement would break compatibility with the 2600s, which I presume CTA is trying to preserve with these cars. There's always that microscopic chance that they have some deal with Bombardier for compatibility with 5000s but I think that'd have to be on another plane of existence. There weren't any requisitions for new motors, new controls, inverters, etc., which would be need to convert from DC to AC traction. Also, there was Hilkevitch exposing the plan to give Bombardier a no bid contract to rebuild the 3200s as 5000s for about $1 million a car, so this certainly is not that. As it is, they claim to be putting in about $600K/car.
briman94
I almost want to say 3253 is partially rehabbed. The seat covers look VERY new and clean. The A/C is a little quieter than other 3200s, but still sounds the same tone and everything (and still louder than 5000s). The ride side/side and up/down is very smooth; still quite jerky back/front though. Not sure how we can really tell if a car is done or not. Edit: no LED signs though. I was like wth, they rehabbed some? I was looking in the yard yesterday at Midway and didn't see anything new. In the past they liked to use #3253-57 for the Halloween cars and they have done other stuff, so you might just be looking at a well maintained car as it's like the pride of the orange line. I also notice those cars don't get run alot like the rest so I bet they have lower miles.

Maybe they got transferred.I think they've been on the brown for a little while, since they had that #3260's, #3250's transfer, for #3360's I think the cutoff is around #3247-48, but the orange runs so many #3200 brownages it's like it's all one line. chicagopcclcar
No one has mentioned the weekend Brown line subway reroutes in a couple of months. I believe we have had twelve weekends and it seems that rail service is getting this down. It takes a keen eye to tell Brown lines from Red lines trains.....the LEDs and the short window behind the cabs while doing the 60-75 MPH that makes the expressway's nickname .."The Damn Ryan" real. Brown line operators are having little trouble now running into 63rd St. middle to change directions. Here are two shots taken Sunday, Aug. 30. at 63rd St. I haven't found out it Brown line trains serve 35th when there's a ball game.
ibebobo
I usually see them every Sunday coming back from Indiana. The white lights and "out of service" are a dead giveaway
chicagopcclcar
I must say 3200s rehabs don't give me energy.....but when it comes to "Yah, Yoow!" #3363! There's eight 3200s now at SKOKIE-SOUTH.

briman94
Updated the main post last night with the latest info I have on rehabs. I haven't gotten a confirmation that 299 also has an LED sign...the latest I heard is that only 300 did but I haven't seen either in person recently so I wouldn't know. I haven't seen any odd numbers of digital signs, but I haven't been paying attention.

I haven't confirmed whether or not those have LEDs. I'll take them off for now.EDIT: Oops, nope, just a typo. I'll fix it.
