jajuan
8592 broke down today on the 7. I spotted it being towed away from Michigan and Congress Plaza by CTA's older wrecker back to Kedzie at about 3:30 this afternoon while waiting for a 147 heading home. YoungBusLover
Just saw a Kedzie maintenance personel transporting #1695 down Halsted heading towards SS with nothing but heavy blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust and the left side knelt down low to the ground. Might be a low air ride from what I could see briefly.

Erin Mishkin Jr.
1187 broke down under the yellow line tracks earlier today around 1:45 PM on the 93 going northbound. Bus was picked up by a tow truck and was towed out of the scene around 3:30 PM
jajuan
8451 had to go out of service from the 7 Harrison yesterday afternoon at about 3:45. The rear doors malfunctioned and refused to close after picking up passengers at Jackson/Clinton. The operator tried resetting them through the cherry, but it was a no go. He tried several times switching off the motor, and they did close. But after each try, they would swing right back open the instant he cut the motor back on. That’s the problem with the new rear doors. They aren’t as easy to open as the older buses. It’s super hard to get these doors to open sometimes which is annoying. The nova rear doors open easy but sometimes they close too fast when the person doesn’t press the door with the hand symbol printed on the yellow tape. The flyers have the best rear doors because they will always stay open until there is no object in the way. 1783’s rear door was messed up and wouldn’t stay open but that was in February and that bus just came back after sitting at south shops for a month so maybe they fixed the rear doors on it by now. sw4400
From July 12th: Bus 4066 broke down on Kimball near Addison. Maintenance truck arrived a bit after the photo was taken to expedite repair on the road.
jajuan
1187 northbound on the 22 at Foster. I don't know if it's engine trouble or what because it was leading the 22 that I had boarded at Irving Park. But a supervisor was lifting up it's engine cover as my bus was undergoing a driver relief change. It didn't really make it to the curb before giving out. It's sitting at a slight angle inches from the curb with the rear portion half blocking traffic.

I rode 1187 yesterday and it seemed like it was running fine and the driver was hauling down Devon.

During previous bout of extreme heat, I remember buses along Ashland going out of service like crazy, especially those that were on the X9. When i was on this bus yesterday, the air conditioner kept turning on and off while the bus was moving.
jajuan
Okay not a breakdown as far as the bus I was originally riding, but I'm putting this here because the bus the supervisor originally was putting us on also got taken out service. So I was originally aboard 1793 on the 147 coming home from work. As the operator was turning the bus over to his relief at Foster, he noticed that an older woman in the first left hand side front seat had apparently urinated herself and left a visible puddle underneath the seat. That of course triggered the supervisor on hand pulling the bus from service. I guess she didn't seem completely coherent to him because he asked if she needed a paramedic, which she declined. I'm thinking maybe she had somehow fallen and sustained a bleeding injury as to the reason everyone was being moved to a different bus. But as everyone was exiting the bus, the supervisor explained that they had a dirty bus, which is why it was immediately pulled from service. So we all were out on 4357 which was a following 151. No sooner than we were all on 4357 and thinking we were about to go, supervisor comes back and said we all had to leave that bus because it now was out of service. The reason was unknown with that one. So we got placed on 4007, another 151, and thankfully THAT one was good to go.😂

But what happened to the passengers going beyond Devon? Was 4007 going to be garage bound? Did the 147 relief driver take over 4007 or 4357? Or did the passengers going past Devon have to wait for the next 147?

The relief driver stayed at Foster presumably so the supervisor could secure her another bus for 147 since she was scheduled to relieve the driver who had the 147 bus I originally left downtown on. 1 hour ago, Busjack said: I (and probably @strictures) hope you were not heading north of Devon.😀 No. I was only going to Thorndale. I was waiting for a cab or bus after work tonight and saw this bus operating #9 SB going to 95th, not an N9 going to 95th/Red Line. The only bus operating SB with that signage is #1759, so this would have to be the bus in the picture(I zoomed it all the way in to get the shot, but as you can see, it came out awful, but it is a cameraphone). The reason I took it was notice the right side lights on this bus? The bus had it's hazards flashing, the brake lights on due to pressure applied to the brake pedal, but the interesting thing is the bus is in "D", but the right reverse light is on! This bus has a wiring fault of some sort in order for that to be occurring. Apparently the exact same thing is happening as of today on another bus.
