I work down at 77th so if anything were to happen as far as moves are concerned I'd be the first to refute and or confirm if anything were to take place. This! There’s more solid signs that hint at swap than just “only one bus out of this range is out”. That just means those buses simply didn’t go out. If it’s not a pick time then anything spotted out of place is most likely borrowed or temporary unless it’s seen for days along with multiple buses of the same range.

Again other parts of the forum explains why this tends to happen and what is occurring. 3 has been using buses from 7 since I was in high school (2008) because 3 is AM heavy and 7 is PM/midday heavy. Now the artic at SS spottings make it a bit clearer that 3 being an artic heavy garage means that when so many artics fail they have a fleet shortage and again since 77th and sometimes 74th have the opposite demand pattern they are usually from to loan buses out till usually later in the day. Isn’t it funny how 77th is spotted usually borrowing for its PM runs? ?? It jsut seems rare now because 103rd doesn’t have to run a 3-4 buses on 134, 143 and 151 not run everything at 95th red line as one big pool of routes after decrowding consolidated some things meaning they aren’t AS stretched thin.

Just wondering what is the significance of these moves to Damen twice out of all the artic routes assigned to NP.

Javi78
With the way CTA has been moving artics around this past year, to help 103rds artic situation in terms of mileage and wear and tear, 103rd should swap all of its remaining in service artics for all of NPs 4300s artics. 103rds artics would rest at NP as they could be ran lightly on the 135 and 148. It would make sense cause honestly why would NP have more Artics when they can easily swap 4300s and 3 can use them while NP can rest 3’s 4300s use them as AM and PM trips wouldn’t hurt plus they got their DE60LF’s back those can be used more often

Nothing that NP uses artics on is light and they’re subject to even more wear and tear than 103rds with all the deadheading and interlining on heavy routes. The 130s and 140s all interline with each other on time of all being heavy individually. Kedzie on the other hand would be perfect as 12/151 are the only full time artic users (so 50 artics out of 70-80 get to rest outside of the peak times). As far as why NP doesn’t have the same issues that’s probably because before we had 4300s, 103rd gave 20 artics to NP leaving barely enough for 6 and 14 so on top of a low spare ratio to work with; when the 4300s came, NP sent some 4150s (which were already heavily used) to 77th who ran them 24/7 on 79th. Finally those made they’re way to 103rd when 77th decided they can’t use artics properly under pre covid conditions. Also some NP artics that NP took from 103rd before taking all the diesels came back so basically long story short 103rd is working with LOT of heavily used artics.
