Well guys, we might want to keep an eye on 77th because there's only 1 active artic (#79) (#4199) and the rest are nothing but 1000s. The are no 7900s active right now.

Yea I only saw 1 Artic on 79th which was the one I rode on to get to my relief point at stony island cause I had the 30 all day. But after that I saw nothing but 40fters working the 79. Once I pulled into the garage at 103rd I was lookin for more artics that may have come from 77th but didn't see any at the time.

To keep from taking the 7900s thread any further off topic, I'll respond here. 4186 eventually joined 4199 on the 79 as it's currently in service on that that route with 4199 right now.

Regarding the report (or rumor) that 77th is getting rid of their artics, I agree 103rd definitely needs more artics but Chicago can use them more than NP, especially on routes such as 72, 74 and 20.

CTA does need to deploy the artics on hand a bit more evenly. And NP really doesn't need more artics. Though again, the way Andre reported his post it doesn't seem like he was saying NP was getting anymore in that mentioned pulling artics from the PM 135 and 136 to operate on the 22 which would be interesting to see how they make that happen without making the 22 artic run all day.

Just for kicks, imagine having artics on #36. That would've been very interesting.

A few years ago they had artics on 36 on weekends for about 6 weeks. For some reason they never repeated it.

It actually makes sense not to since routes in the system got reassigned since then such that so few 40 foot run NP routes operate on the weekends especially when we're speaking of Sundays. And outside of the point that artics can't run everywhere, it makes little sense to have any more NP 1000s sitting parked on weekends than there already are.

Yeah I know. They need to stop having artics on #148 despite a mix of 1000s.

I think they still figure that 148 still needs artics in PM rush because of the route still operating on Irving Park and Clarendon and thus drawing folks leaving Michigan Avenue to head to the highrises when in reality it's now pretty much what the former 144 used to be, a supplement to 146 for those riders not going to the highrises on Inner Lake Shore Drive. Based on the 144 having used 40 foot buses both rush periods the passenger loads for heading only to the Inner Driver tend to be a lot larger than those going to Marine Drive.

Apparently rumor, as 79 is mostly stimulus artics at the moment, although also a few 1000s.

Well this is nice that #4186 is helping #8 right now between Randolph-Washington and 79th. Haven't had 77th's artic on that route for quite a while.

Update: #1651 is on #55 right now but only ending at St. Louis.

Last part suggests 74th is still kind of lean on available 1000s. The fact that the 9 is heavier on 6400s than usual also seems to suggest that. 44 and 94 which already only get just a small handful of 1000s used on a weekday, has zero NFs running in this evening's rush.

The city is giving Jackie Robinson West Little League team a parade tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m. The parade route according to WGN News will start at Millennium Park and follow Michigan Avenue to 35th, 35th west to Halsted and Halsted all the way down to 105th Street. So as the AM rush winds down and midday service hours start expect delays and/or detours for the 3,4, 8, 8A, 12, 18 and 35 as well as the relevant routes that are on streets that intersect those the parade route follows.

I thought the rally started at 105th and would wind up at Millenium Park.

I guess I interpreted the parade route backwards since it didn't have direction markers given in the first story I read. But I did find the story that does say the rally does start at 105th. Either way midday travel on the south side, in the South Loop and the central downtown area is going to be interesting tomorrow. Folks who need to use transit in the neighborhoods through which the parade will pass will need to leave earlier. But it is a good reason behind it and I don't think many south siders will mind the travel sacrifice put toward honoring the kids given the kids are from that part of town and their accomplishment brings rare good attention to the south side. At least few will openly complain about it.

How's this for a rare occurrence? 6413 is doing an N9 owl run tonight. Novas haven't done owl service at 74th Garage in ages.

I think anything that's ready to go can run owl service at 74th on N9. I remember back when 6000's and 4400's were assigned to 74th, I was waiting for the SB N9 at Irving Park and Ashland(I remember a 6000-Series Flxible just turned east onto Irving Park.... a Cummins one-63XX. Well I was waiting about five minutes after that and along comes a TMC turning from Irving Park onto Ashland(#4826) as an N9. It was operating, but the tranny was not doing so well. After stopping, the driver would press the accelerator and the bus would rev in place for about five seconds before it *jolted* into gear.

Usually, N9 was all Flxibles. That was the first and only time I seen a TMC assigned as an N9.

Theoretically that may be but in the present day for the N9 as well as owl service on 49, 55, 62, and 63 74th usually operates only with NFs while parking all its Novas overnight.
