So at this moment, Does North (Waukegan) still has 4 of Orion VI's remaining there?

It would only be for storage for Ravinia. I don't think they give inside tours of the garage. Ravinia season starts June 10, so you'll have to wait until then to see what's on the street.

BTW, tickets are expensive this year, such as $125 reserved for Willie Nelson and $110 reserved for Aretha Franklin or Common.

Checking Webwatch during the 5pm rush yesterday, these 6162s and 6600s were not out at South based on the latest roster there:

6162, 6163, 6165-66, 6171-72, 6176, 6178-6181, 6183-84, 6187, 6190-91, 6193 (this bus I physically saw last Saturday so I know it's still around), 6194, 6196-98, 6200-6202, 6205, 6207 (wonder if this is still a Sox wrapped bus), 6209, 6212, 6215, 6221, 6241 (saw this one physically on Saturday also), 6245, 6250.

6600s - 6622, 6642, 6646, 6649, 6663, 6676.

Think it's safe to assume that 6245 and 6250 are still out there, they're newer than the rest.  Some of these obviously would be spares (every single 15500 and 17500 were out yesterday including 17528), but I'd wonder if this is the beginning of the end for most of these buses?

Edit:  6646, 6649, 6181, & 6207 are out today (Friday 7/14 at 5:30 rush).  Surprisingly, no 6245 or 6250.  Interesting.

At this point, the only thing I would conclude is that there are 48 CNGs in service and the 2005 NABIs are still being flogged; resulting in fewer 2003 NABIs. Still bizarre stuff like a 6600 on 352.

The 2005s still being at S results in a motley mess at W.

Sounds like its the end. I'd really be interested whats up at west. You know how I said I always saw an orion on the morning pullouts of #303 and #332. Well I havent seen one pullout now in about two weeks nor have i saw any at west so it sounds like the orions are done at least at west.

No way. Currently on Webwatch are 6041, 6048, 6058. 6103, 6109, 6123, 6131, 6156, 6159, 6160. 6161.

6156-6161 are explainable, but the rest are not. And this is not the height of the rush hour.

uh no.  I very seen the Wrigley Field Orion on 330 earlier this week  and saw 6109 ion the 330 today.  There's  usually  at least one Orion on the 301.  I do believe  when they do die, they will die at West.

Yeah i know i saw one on #330. So wth, west has nothing new? They must be retiring nabis out of South then. So the nabis are worse than the orions, cause thats what they are saying.

West has always been known to take very good care of their buses, South doesn't.  Case in point, when I saw 6193 the other day on the 352, it was loud and the blue covering was peeling off very badly.  I was surprised to see it out to be honest.

So the Orions still active at West is nothing new (or the few remaining at NW for that matter) and it looks like South needs to keep the 2005 Nabis right now to manage the transition till the rest of the 17500s get in.

Cause and effect aren't there, as on my list only 6041, 6048, 6058 are originally West buses. Only thing that can be said is that 6116-6144 were swapped from S to NW in ~2003.

I always thought that repainting the 6162s all Blue (Especially South ones) were waste of money since they were apparently already tired, falling apart before they did it.

That's why they didn't paint them. They just put wraps on them. You can see if you are close enough that the old decals show through.

See this topic.

Finally, Pace is unloading scrap. All vehicles are at South Division:

Note that all of the 2002 MCIs are on the list, so our supposition that they were gone is correct.

Also 38 paratransits on the list.

Another thing to note (I didn't copy that part) is that while most of the Orion VIs had about 550K-680K miles, the NABIs that spent their whole service life at S averaged over 700K, reinforcing my point that the main issue at S is mileage.

6250 on this list is a surprise.  This was once a Joliet bus, then West, then finally South.  Surprising that as of right now, only 9 6162s are scrapped.  But given Pace831 reporting that more CNGs arrived at Chandler, that number will increase significantly soon.

Only one that wasn't a S bus from the beginning. However 6634-6647 are in a similar boat as being originally R buses, as opposed to 6653, 6655, and 6658 being all time S buses.Only one remaining in S is 6659, and I saw 6654, 6656. and 6660 at Ravinia the other day.

What is #1944?

As predicted, I didn't see what "1944" was. There were four of the Schaumburg trolleys visible:

Quite a few NABIs mixed in with everything else:

There were 15 paratransits in the first row:

The former route 895 buses:

Then on to South Holland. Most of the new 16400s still seem to be here. Other than the ones on route 611 I don't think many have been put in service. The front parking lot was full of new community vehicles and vans:

New MCI in the garage:

I didn't know they had these:

Most budgets listed 6 of 7 in service. If at least 4 are out of service, no wonder they needed the 2 EZ Rders.

Since the Daily Herald article showed a First Student driver, I wonder if Pace is going to have to rush the 86xxs into service. I would have thought that the contract would have come up in the July board meeting. Waiting until Aug. 21 might be too late.

Obviously, the change is blue wrapped ones. Reinforces the conclusion from Webwatch that the 2005 ones are being overused because more of S's 2003s are on the scrap line (which is what @pace2322 said was the best place for them). Note that 6176 is too recent to have made the disposition bidding list.

My third revision: Are you referring to way in the back? Two magnifications show that you are.

Anyway, those buses turned out to be another fiasco. Considering that they didn't work in Downers Grove, I wonder if the procurement for small buses has been delayed because someone is rethinking it.

I guess with the shortage after expanding service, they must have had something planned. I'll have to reevaluate my 6379s to I-55 prediction.

I knew they were there, but this is another occasion when I thought they were on Chicago Transit and Railfan, but they aren't now.

You must have a pretty good zoom lens.

The zoom lens comes in handy sometimes. B|

Looking closer at my first photo, there are actually 5 trolleys in the line.

I was surprised to see 6979, but it makes sense. Currently up to 6976 are in service so that means 3 MCIs (at least) to replace the 3 Pulse buses, which are obviously there on a temporary basis.

6156-61 probably will outlast the 2003 ones, since they are newer. Probably not the 2005s.

The real question is that while Pace always cries in its budget that there isn't enough money to meet its capital needs, suddenly at least 90 buses* showed up on a budget of 72, and that's Pace's usual M.O. Then for 2017, we are supposed to get the remaining 71 CNGs, 53 small buses, whatever of this year's order that's still at Chandler or South Holland, plus anything on 2017 budget's 76 fixed route buses. Sure, there's growth for stuff like the I-90 project, but what really is in the pipeline?

The other weird thing is that while NW Orion VIs were headed to SW, now SW's are headed in the opposite direction.

___

*Based on the assumption that 6575 is on WebWatch.

Sorry to ask this so late, but 6575 brought to my attention because at NW I see 6572 being the highest, newest in the 6500 group at NW, but is there a 6573-6574, I don't see them at all on the Web on any NW routes.
