Bro they are junk they got all type of bugs in them the garage works at C even say that they are a POS the company have to come out often to do something to them

Yeah that is true, CTA doesn’t really use them like that. To me they are just junk, I’m honestly thinking that they might end up getting retired when they hit their 12 year mark in 2026 or before (my guess). I think they are test buses since CTA ordered only 2 of them. Both buses did went through a small fire leaving them spending most of their life OOS or another case behind that. I’ve also heard that New Flyer recalled all XE40 models because of fires or other serious conditions.

As far as nf, maybe we will start seeing some when they order some artics or the next order of buses. I doubt they want a full fleet of novas. 

I’m starting to wonder if maybe cta just does new flyer for quick massive orders cause 1: the 1000s replaced like 3 series and nova was out of the US business for hat time. They come back at some point and the first 40ft contract is back with Nova? ? maybe nf is quick but what if nova has a longer lasting product. I’ll end the speculation at that though cause the 1000s are still kicking very well considering they’re bout to be around jsut as long as the 6400s were by the time they’re fully gone

Yea I knew the green 1 had caught fire I'm back in like 15-16 when it was on the 52 near the blue line but I aint know the other 1 had caught fire & I think all of them are junk & yea they had a recall they was going up in flames thats why I think they never sent it back to K when it came back it stayed at 7 & you noticed when they do run an its on the the 79 so it can just pass right back by the garage

Yeah, when they came to 77th I seen them multiple times on the 79. The last time they ran was when #701 was active when it operated on the 79. #700 been out for a while, #701 has ran a bit more often. When the CTA order more buses after the #8350s I hope New Flyer wins the bid for the 400+ bus contract.

Well nova did 2 things it was asked. Put in tinted windows to ease the ac problem the novas had. Then it got a new ac system manufacturer so cta is most likely pleased with them. Their buses are not burning up except for 6860. If that was an aftermarket issue thats not novas issue anyway. I guess nf has to prove themselves again.

I'm lost.  Why wouldn't New Flyer add tinted windows if they were asked?   I wonder if Dorval Carter has a thing for Novas?  What did he order when he was at other agencies?

CTA will use them again for that quick massive order, rest assured. Nova was probably happy for this most recent order, they don't have a lot of US presence, Houston, Chicago & New York are their biggest markets, they do better in Canada.

Whatever the issues going on with the recall, NF seems to have upgraded with their new Charge line

They've been getting worked on pretty much, I'll take a wild guess and assume that they're getting prepped for a future release to 74th. I haven't seen them leave those two bays in a few months except to the training course out back.

Maybe he got a free die cast nova for his office!! Lol!! 

As far as his work history he has never been pres of a transit agency. He seems more like a bureaucrat, holding various executive positions at the FTA as well as a few positions within the cta all high ranking ones like attorney. 

NF is just on the wrong side of the bidding. I hope they can pull it together for the next bid. Dont know if its a model problem with price or what. Id be shocked if they didnt get the next order. 

You do have to wonder about some of these bids. I hope they are on the level. I was reading about Metra buying its new bilevel cars. You know the only bidder for those cars was CRRC. They rebid it and got Alstom to win. I seem to remember the same thing happening to bombardier for the cta 7000s. They took the cta to court on that. I guess they lost. So the CRRC factory has work for about 10 years with the 7000s order but nothing after it. I guess Lightfoot is not going to have lunch with the Metra pres anytime soon. Lol!!

Yep, no point in awarding a bid to a company who might be legislated out of work at any given moment. Although, people also have to realize there are effectively little to no more American passenger rail car producers in the US. Even half our bus manufacturers aren't aren't American out of the Big 4 (really Big 3, but I'm being generous to Eldorado).

With the way things are going,  U.S. companies need to be leary of Chinese companies with respect to national security.  How is it that CRRC is winning all of these bids?  Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but could China actually cripple transit in America by simultaneously shutting down the systems where it operates cars?  I think Metra was wise to rebid  the contract.

CRRC is the only one bidding (and might be the only one capable). Kawasaki stated they was done after WMATA's 7000 series, but they got back into it with the R211 for NYC. ABB, Budd, and all the old players are out. Bombardier's last cars were BART's new ones and CTA's 5000 series. They've been acquired by Alstom (who also hasn't done heavy rail cars in a while either), so maybe they'll re-enter the market. Hitachi did Miami's new rail cars, but have otherwise been mute. Siemens seems to be sticking to locomotive and commuter rail. Stadler got the contract to build MARTA's new cars, so that was a suprise; their focus in the US has been for commuter rail and light rail so far, although they do offer metro solutions.

There are only 10 or so subways in the US. Cleveland just redid their bid, since they need specialized trains for how their subway/light rail is set up. Philly will have to order soon and that'll be two separate bids since their fleet's aren't interchangeable. Baltimore will also need to bid soon. Chicago, NYC & Boston will all also probably bid again in the next 10 years (Boston's blue line is gonna be an interesting bid as well). 

CRRC (China) and now Stadler (Swiss) seem to be the only consistent players. Remains to be seen where Kawasaki (Japan), Alstom/Bombardier (French/Canadian) and Hitachi (Italian/Japanese) will fall.
