When Red Line trains were rerouted to Ashland/63, all nonpeak Green Line trains went to Cottage Grove. During a.m rush, Green Line trains that would've normally gone to Ashland/63 were short turned at Roosevelt, thus the sign you posted. P.M. rush trains that normally would've gone to Ashland/63 circled the outer loop tracks after leaving Clinton. The signs now work perfectly for a line cut at Roosevelt. The Red Line trains retained their Ashland/63 signs which came in handy during 98th Yard work and the 95th Station rebuild when certain rush hour trips were rerouted to Ashland/63. Though Blue Line service hasn't been to Cermak/54 in years, the Blue Line signs remain today. The Orange Line roller curtains used to have Ford City when there was discussion about extending the line from Midway to Ford City. I haven't seen any electronic Ford City signs, nor do I know if they exist.

Those are the standard issue 3200s, but with all the TLC they got with the rehabs, they DO look a lot like the 5000s more than ever. This is what I look for to tell them apart... That said, I wonder if the packed trains have more to do with the operation as opposed to Line crowding. Recently I was on a crowded Pink Line train. Trains are supposedly every 7 to 8 minutes during rush hour. But if an inbound Pink gets stuck behind a Green Line train near Ashland, then a Purple Line st Wells, then an Orange Line turning at Van Buren. then has to wait for a Brown Line train to clear Tower 18, that will lead to overcrowding, especially if the next Pink trai doesn't encounter any or fewer delays. The same thing happened to me on the Green Line whereas we were delayed behind a Pink, Purple, Orange and Brown Line trains before exiting the Loop. By the time I got off the train, the next train immediately behind us was also a Green Line train, but was nearly empty because the train I was on picked up everyone. In neither case was the leader made to run express. In the case of the Pink Line, I think another factor is the two trains that are used for Blue Line service. They line up (not at the same time) on the WB track past the mid station crossover at 54/Cermak. Those trains have to crossover to the inbound track and leave the station before the next inbound Pink can load. Those two Blue Line trains are deadheads. .
