Rhys Pate
As the 8350-series enters service, soon after the retirement of the 6400-series is completed, retirement of the 1000-series will begin, thus, it is time for this thread to be created. CTA's history with retiring the 6400s, the fact that there are over twice the number of 1000s than there were 6400s, and the length of time the current 8350s going into service sat at 77th before they were ready all day it's going to take a while for the 1000s numbers to dwindle. True, possibly I’ll say mid or late 2023 is when they’ll start to get retired.

Mr.cta85
It’ll be at least another 5yrs before the 1000’s are gone and that’s minimum.
Rhys Pate
As more 8350-series buses arrive and start service, now that retirement of the 6400-series is complete (the 6400-series’ final day of service was August 16th (last Tuesday)), retirement of the 1000-series will begin soon.

There were over a thousand of the 1000 series buses. If all of the options for the 8350s are exercised, that's 600 buses, still leaving about 400 New Flyers still around. So it would take another 400 buses from another manufacturer to replace all of the 1000 series New Flyers. For New Flyer fans, there are still 300 artics, and Pace West has 85 Xcelsiors that are only 2 years old

Rhys Pate
Yes, the 6400-series is officially retired. The 6400-series buses that were active at Forest Glen garage are now in Forest Glen garage’s dead lot. These buses and all other 6400-series buses that are still on CTA property (at other garages or South Shops) are in storage waiting to be scrapped, preserved, or something else to happen to them.
